raschig balls

Raschigs have a unique look - and sound.

Not common. A little special. Relatively rare perhaps.

Where to find them? Why, My place of course. Or yours if I tote them in an appropriate ball attaché - the Raschigs that is - not the fungus. Leave that to garczar

Great set of balls made in Germany if i remember correctly.
No longer produced.
Haven't seen a set of them in over 20 years.

where can you find them

are they particularly good

They pop op for sale on ebay and AZ once in a while.
I had a 9-ball set a while ago.

They were very well made for the time, but not any better
then the current Aramith Super-Pro range. Neat designs
though and because of age/quality/rarity combined you
have to pay quite a bit for them. Like double the cost of
an Aramith set.

Regards, Dave

As I recall the 9 ball set the diameter of the ball was just slightly smaller than 2 1/4" standard.

Surely there is one or more of the 57000+ AZB'ers plus tens of thousands of "guests" that actually own a set of these that can chime in and let us know - where is everyone?

Don't believe what you read or hear all the time, Dean. I can't believe you quit so fast without seeing, touching, hearing or playing the Raschigs, sir

I'm not saying Raschig ball sets are the best on the planet - but at one point when they were being made, they were right there at the top if not leading. Everyone. On the planet.

IF the only thing someone wanted in a ball set was "the latest and greatest and best made TODAY" then everyone would own one of three sets made in 2016 and walk away from the rest. Oh what a waste - these folks have no idea what they're missing.

Oh wait ---- I forgot ---- there is a large percentage of players that only need their balls to be available - and mostly round. Everything else is superficial.

In 10 yrs, there will be better sets than those available now.

Progress: if only it could be used for good.

One thing that I noticed when I played with them (a friend's set) is that they had about twice as much throw as Aramiths. Lou Figueroa also noticed this in a tournament he played in that had them, so the throw was probably not due to my friend using something strange to clean them. I suppose you could get used to them but then you would be lost with normal balls.

Twice as much throw. That's quite a statement. Time to look into this.

🏼

I'll get my sets out today, Bob, and do a head-to-head throw test comparison and see what I find using a few rudimentary playing examples ---- same environment, player, shot type and speed, cue and cue tip, ball cleaning procedure, etc....the usual suspects.

I'll be back....

I have the 9b set (from double dave - thx!) and do really like them. Have not noticed the throw being way different but really haven't played much with them. will have to check next time they're out.

I play with duramith tourneys at home and love them but the Raschig balls make a great aesthetic statement.

best,
brian kc
