Real what would you do here??

I would roll the 4 between the rail and the 7 trying to get just a touch uptable from the 7. Better percentage shot for me anyway than trying to cut and freeze the 2.

I think that playing against a good player, pushing the 2 onto the 1 is just a recipe to lose. You're probably going to end up in a darker spot than you're in here.

I would prefer to play between the 9 and 5 to the end rail with right english trying to go 2 rails into the 1 softly. If that option isn't on I'd probably play an extreme masse around the 2.

You're a dog to win from this spot as it is but I think either of those 2 leave you in a better place than pushing the 2 onto the 1.

9 ball barbox tourney, don't remember the score, but every game counts. No pushout rule in effect. Your turn, what would you do here??

CueTable Help

After 30 minutes of trying to log in to the WEI table and changing passwords, waiting 15 minutes, etc. I have decided to just describe the solution.

This is an easy 4 rail kick. Shoot past the 7 ball and hit the lower long rail just at the first diamond. The cue ball then hits the left short rail and goes to the upper right long rail about 8 inches before the pocket. It's easy to see the cue ball hits the short right rail and hits the 1 ball. Success is not guaranteed but it's at least a good hit with a chance for a safety.

Snuggling the 2 to the 1 with a push with no combo
Slight masse to get a good hit on the 1 and snuggle it with the 2
I also see banking between the 3 and top rail for a 4 or 5 cushion bank for a good shot on the 1.

No soup for you. I believe you cannot pass the 7, if you can then you aren't going to pass the 3 & 6 to get to side prior to the 1.

I looked at putting the 2 onto the 1. I don't like it. He then has ball in hand, and even the "bad" players can get an easy safe from there. So... doing that, I am no better off than I am now, and could be worse off!

Another option would be to go the the foot rail and spin back to the side rail past the side pocket, and hope for a hit that didn't sell out. However, that would require a slight masse due to the position of the 9, so the odds just went way down on that shot.

Tying up another ball is an option, but would be difficult to do well. I went with the masse. The balls are close together, so aiming it was easy to do. After the aim, your speed is the determining factor. On a shot like this, I feel I am 50/50 on making it, and 95/5 on hitting it. I did make it, and had a pretty little angle on the 2 to easily follow and get perfect on the 3 for the runnout.

Most never even look at the masse possibility. Good going on those that did! Ones like this are not really hard. No more difficult than a lot of bank shots. It's just a matter of knowing HOW to aim it, and then practicing them some to get the right feel for the speed on them.

It's always nice to have the extra arrows in your quiver when you need them!

CueTable Help

I've won more games locking up balls than I have doing masses.

But your shot is what Efren probably would have done.

I've comforted myself with the fact that many players that out-masse
me and out-jump me can get the 7-8 and don't want to play anymore.

However, you have just convinced me to add these clubs to my golf bag.

But if I rip a cloth I'm telling them to send you the bill.:D

CueTable Help

Probably this. A proficient jumper could pocket the one but I'm not good at jumping.

?????? So you would essentially just give him ball in hand and say "have fun"??? Remember, there are no pushouts.

That's what I get for being asleep when they had the players meeting. Since I can't jump and I don't see a kick I'd attempt the masse.
