My home room, Red Shoes in Chicago, has undergone a total refitting and rehab. John Lanvin and assoc. have redone the room completely. Every table recovered and refitted. Brand new rug, everything painted and puckered up, including the toilets.

Good job, John. Just in time for next Saturday's 1pkt tourney.

Hmmm, I thought one pocket wasn't until sept 14th. What's the tournament next sat?

It is 11am, every time I go I try and get there at 11 they're happy to see people and are real friendly. It's been a couple weeks ill have to stop in!

Now that's how it was years ago. That's great! I don't know how it is around the country, but most rooms around ct open at 3 or 4. I'm ready for nighty night by then. :D

Maybe we were all lucky to have been around years ago when pool was popular. I can remember standing outside the pool hall on Saturday morning after I had hand delivered my customers newspapers waiting for the place to open with my buddies. Of course those days we had to carry the newspapers in a sack over our shoulder and put them between the storm door and the front door, no drive by and toss it on the lawn like trash. It was 1966 and America was a GREAT and Proud nation. I guess everyone has their own opinion but if pool is an indicator of our countries prosperity we are in serious trouble...

You're really dating yourself there Dan! Lol I'm trying to help bring the game back. I think halls should have a dress code of sorts, I see sportsmanship dwindling and seems more people want to hustle a weaker player than help. Hell I'd pay for the table time for a few hours even if I lose every game the help is awesome. Actually I played a race of 14.1 with mr lavin about a month ago. Great help great guy, I love me some red shoes!

I agree Chicago (WAS) 1 of the nicest cities in the world

back when the bears played football! - before the city went broke. been told it is another part of mexico now. I'll definetly stop in next time out that way. nice post mark

Red Shoes Billiards is having a "9 Ball Tournament" on August 3rd, 2013 ($50 entry-$500 added). The other $50 entry-$500 Added tournaments are: "10 BALL TOURNAMENT" August 17th, 2013, "BANK POOL TOURNAMENT" on August 31st, 2013 and "ONE POCKET TOURNAMENT" on September 14th, 2013. In addition to the remodeling mentioned above, Red Shoes Billiards is now a "LICENSED ILLINOIS GAMING FACILITY" (what does that mean in English???)....We now have LEGAL Video Poker and Slot machines....So players can bring their girlfriends or wives (DON;T bring them both) and they can have something to do besides watch pool.

title says it all....

.. .. when I read the thread title I was expecting a report on a treatment program going well or not so well LOL... this is much better news:grin-square:

Yea I hear what your saying Tommy and as pool halls go Red Shoes is the best in the Chicago area hands down. There is nothing even running a close second. The owners actually get it there and have done a great job on the renovations!

Awesome John, can't wait to see the revamp.

Question:

Are the video/slot machines in the main room? Wondering if its going to sound like Vegas while I'm shooting my back cut long rail bank hill hill in the next finals vs Ike....(((dreaming)))

Kevin

As far as "slot sounds" in the main room....we have the machines set up in a sequestered corner...and the machine sound levels have been set on "minimum"...so it will not interrupt POOL PLAYING (you don't even know they are there).

In my post earlier I commented on the owners getting it at Red Shoes.

For example, I drove down on Friday night without knowing they were closed for renovations. For me that is about 24 miles through tolls one way. I get to the door and there is a sign that says closed for renovations, so being a former contractor I just open the door to see what is going on. I see Jerimy Chambers working on recovering some of the tables and spot John Lavin in the back by the bar. He looks up and says were closed till tomorrow. I respond with damn John I just drove 24 miles to get here and your closed, without missing a beat John says, " what you drinking it's on me." Now most pool hall owners would have just led me to the door and said come back tomorrow, not John. He bought me a Corona and then showed me all the renovations that had been done. All new carpets, all tables restored with new Simonis 860 HR, bathrooms completely refurbished, the bar area, the new slot machines in fact the entire room really. I think the only thing that was not refurbished is the ceiling. New stools also BTW. I did drive back down on Saturday with a friend and had lunch played some pool and had a nice afternoon, so Thanks for the beer John and running the best pool room in Chicago.

I won't be there until Wednesday night for Straight Pool League. On the phone, John said that it looks real nice.

I'll take a few pics on Wednesday and upload them.
