Reed Pierce agreed to this game from Corey...

In Columbus, OH March of 2005, a deal was made over the phone between Reed Pierce and Corey D. to play $10k sets 9 ball on the barbox w/ Reed getting the wild 8. When Reed gets there to play the $10k set, Corey and company only want to bet $3k/set. Because the AGREED upon game was not respected by Corey and company, the game never took place. Let it be said that it is not known who the stakehorse(s) were behind Corey that reneged on the agreed upon game. Once there, Reed made it clear that he would take the wild 8 on the barbox or the big table. Again, Corey and company would only play for $3k/set. Because this was LESS THAN A THIRD of the agreed upon game, Reed chose not to play as it was not worth his time and effort.

As Hemicudas can testify to, Reed has done very little playing (if any) ever since. About a year ago, Reed and his brother, Ronnie, have opened the Reed Pierce Bar & Grill located in Byram, MS (just a few miles south of Jackson, MS). I will guarantee that this sports bar (w/ 2 9' Diamonds, 2 7' Diamonds, and 5 Valley 7' tables) has the best steaks than any other pool room in the south (very possibly in the country!!!).

Reed has stated himself (less than 3 hrs ago) that with 4 months notice, he will be more than willing to get back into action if the price and game is right.

Before all the bashers on here start their rants against me because this is only my second post, I heard this straight from Reed Pierce's mouth no more than 3 hrs ago. For all of you haters out there, just ask the well known and respected Hemicudas b/c he can verify this within minutes with a phone call to Reed himself (I guarantee he knows how to get a hold of him).

Why are all the people in MS so far south of me? :(

Wish I could find a few of you around Memphis to play a few sets with (no money of course, lol) :)

Would be interesting to see Reed and Shane V. get together on the 9ft. I would have to give the edge to Shane. JMO.

umm, since when is 3k a set not enough to play for? in a time when most folks make 1/10th that a week, why not get it on?

I know things go back and forth before the games begin, but in a time when you can't get ANYONE to play for ANYTHING, why not start the action?...

That was not the agreement. That's why. Lucky a fight didn't break out over it.

The stakehorses should have paid his expenses at least. It is a good jesture to do when a guranteed game isn't complied. It recently happened to a friend of mine and the "money man" gave them all 100 a piece for driving 200 miles out of the way to play the game.

haha he probably breathed a sigh of relief that he could get out with a weak excuse that 3,000 bucks 'wasn't worth his time and effort'. That sounds like straight up bullshít :P He probably heard about corey winning the 2005 upa championships and said "what have I gotten myself into?"

I can maybe see him being bothered if he had to fly in to columbus and wasted money on a plane ticket though. Hell, maybe he heard about corey winning that 10k and that's why Mr. Pierce went after him.

Anyway, no big deal, if he's supposed to win he can just play those 'cheap' sets until he busts him for 10k, right?

Not sure what the point of this post was, going out of your way to bash corey over some woofing from 2 years ago. If Pierce wants the world to know he's ready to gamble, he can just say so.

I don't know you, but I do know Reed, and this post has an air of veracity to it. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss InTheCloudzzz because he is new on here.

Reed has always been a straight up guy with a helluva lot of gamble. He never did like playing for chump change. Not that 3K is peanuts, but like someone else said, a deal is a deal. Maybe Jamie McWhorter will offer to make this game good now.

I can also see the point on insisting on the bigger bet. If Reed were to win the first set, then Corey could always pull up. Just my take on this post. And he's not out of line posting here either, since the aforementioned McWhorter has been touting Corey for weeks now, and woofing at everyone.

For my money, if Reed Pierce has been playing and is in stroke, I'm betting on him if he can get the Wild 8 from anyone, on a barbox. And I'll match Jamie dollar for dollar. Let them meet up in Derby City.

I love these types of posts!

Here's my 2 cents worth....Corey Deuel is a better gambler than he is a tournament player. This being said even though he is a former U.S. Open 9 Ball Champion!
Reed Pierce, exact same description. Former U.S. Open winner. Better gambler. BUT, the difference here will be the inactivity of Pierce. Deuel is in action an aweful lot and against world beaters. He regularly gambles with "Bata", so, I have to think he's got the nuts on this match up, should it ever take place. The thought of being out of commision for as long as Pierce is / was does not bode well for him returning to form in just 4 months. No disrespect to him at all, but, he was on the fade when he started fazing out of pool. Corey Deuel is one of the most creative players alive today and his will to win is ferocious. He's been on a steady diet of action, while Pierce has ventured into making a more secure life for his future.
The wild 8 should make it closer.

I don't disagree with you. Reed NEEDS the Wild 8 for all the above reasons. Very similar to what CJ experienced when he tried to comeback after a long layoff. And CJ was a "World Beater".

Granted Reed has been out of it for a while, but, it is a bar table and he doesn't have to be in dead punch like a big table to be effective. There is a huige difference here. Plus the fact that it was two years ago and after that length of time, who really gives a shit.

I have seen Reed play perfect shape on a bar table for VERY long periods of time. And Reed is a FEROCIOUS competitor too. :D :D

Sounds like he has some very nice tables at his steak house.

Anyone here think they are just gathering dust from him not going near them?

If he plays at the pace of a 92-96 REED he's in punch. If it takes him 8 minutes to navigate a cosmo he's got no chance.

Actually, I was just in there last week. Super nice place. I don't think he has a serious pool playing crowd but his business seems to be booming.

I'm happy for them. There just isn't enough money in pool. I'm glad to see him venture into new things.

RP is an honorable and stand-up guy, as everybody knows, and if, in fact, the game was changed, then I can see that it would not sit well with him. That would be a bad note to start playing on.

I have seen this trap a hundred times. I have driven for HOURS to play in a game that was agreed on only to get there and have them switch up.

It's a straight UP NIT MOVE. I have also turned right around and walked out before, but not before buying a candy bar and a coke to flash the bankroll walking out with me.

One time I got a phone call that so-an-so wanted to play me and I should come to the pool room. Well they were still an hour away and I was in bed. So I told my friend that I wouldn't play for less than $2000. They agreed so I got dressed and went to the pool room. When they arrived they had a backer and they said they only wanted to play for $500. Then they tried to switch up the game and the player and yada yada.

After 30 minutes of barking and telling them what nits they were to get me up for $500 we finally made a game for $400 and I won 3 sets and they quit me. I was getting spotted and they wanted me to come off the spot.

Now I normally would but these guys had me so hot that I told them if they want to play more then they need to bet more and the spot wasn't changing. I said, I have $2000, plus what I won from you is $3200. Bet it all or hit the road.

They were pissed off and I said next time don't wake me up. :-)

---------------------

I think Reed did the right thing. Screw 'em. Corey, you rock, your stakehorses don't. After all the barking on here about spotting champions we see that the first time a CHAMPION shows up it's tail between the legs time. And don't bother barking at me - I am in China and if you want to bring Corey here we can bet a couple hundred thousand RMB and I can find someone take a spot as an unknown and we can see if you get to take some of the surplus back home. I m sure I can get Yang to come over - he plays cheap.

Agreed

I think we all have similar stories, John and I totally agree with what you did. Today there is a simple way to keep this from happening, thanks to the net. Wire the up money to Jay Helfert or another mutually trusted third party. These people who say, Why didn't you play for the 3K, miss the point. Why let them fire a single 3K barrell at 10 or 15 times that? You are so right when you say it is a NIT move.
