Hello Az, here is the results of a recent refinish that I did for a local customer. The cue was really in poor condition, the ferrules literally came off in my hands, one ferrule was reused and the other was replaced with Ivory. The shaft collars were originally a White material that appeared to be paper Phenolic, however it had deteriorated to a point where it could no longer be used. I could have used White phenolic but the Customer decided he was interested in making this cue a player so he requested Pearl collars. The cues Brass Joint was loose and the seat was cracked, so the pin was also loose. The pictured joint and pin are new materials that were set into a new seat. The forearm was cored to allow the placement of the Maple dowel for the joint collar and pin.

The cues butt was disassembled ring by ring and reassembled as currently seen. The originally had Cortland #9 Irish linen, so I wrapped the cue with a current Green Speck Irish Linen. Below are the photo's of the finished product.

Let me know what you think.

Great work. I wish you had posted a couple of before pics to show the difference. Nothing against the work by any means, but didn't all of that required work cost more than the cue was really worth after all is said and done? I understand that the owner wanted it to be a player, but would think that he could have found one nicer that wouldn't have needed all of that work. Just curious.

Scott, the owner purchased the cue New around 1972 and played with it until the 1980's. Due to changes in his life pool was no longer part of it, so the cue was put in storage in his Garage and forgotten. A few years ago he found the cue stored in it's case, and all the years in a non temperature controlled environment had caused the cue to have some major problems. The glues were letting loose and the finish if there was any on the cue was gone. The butt is full spliced, but is had a warp below the points in the handle from sitting outside. So since everything was loose, I removed it and put the butt in my lathe between centers and trued the cues butt. This was very easy because most of the old Palmer cues, especially these models were very large in diameter.

The main reason the gentleman wanted this cue brought back from the Dead was to give it to his Son who recently started Playing APA. It is funny but I get a number of customers who do not care about the money they spend for sentimental reasons. I also wish that I had taken photo's of the cue before I refinished it, but I was pressed for time.

Thanks for your kind words!!
