I'd like to mention Wes Hunter. I met him a pool tournament many years ago while he was promoting his cues ( 1994 Texas Open I think). I own one of his cues that was on the cover of American Cueist. I scratched the ferrule on one of my shafts and asked him if he could fix it. He obliged. He took the shaft back to New Mexico (I lived in San Antonio), put on a new ferrule, new tip, cleaned the shaft and mailed it back to me for free. This is the type of customer service all companies should strive for.
In 2004 I ordered a cue from Richard Black (no flames please) while I was deployed. I spoke with him several times and we decided on a great design. As always, I think of something a few days after the order and called him back. Luckily he hadn't started the cue yet. I asked him for a piece of birdseye maple that had alot of "eyes" on it. He searched his shop and gave me the best piece he had and it's a gorgous pice.
Last year I bought a Chad Carter cue from eBay. It was one of his earlier cues that he experimenting with finishes. I didn't like the finish that was on it and he read that post. He told me to mail the cue back as he had perfected his process. So he refinished and rewrapped the cue for me for free.
So, I've got to say that these three men have treated me very well.
FWIW,
Jim
