Reno Tournament in Progress

By looking at the charts, it is evident there will be some great match-ups this week in Reno. However, I was surprised to see the defending champion Ronnie Wiseman receive a big "F" (forfeit) in the first round.

LilJon made the trek from Mississippi to Reno, and I heard it through the grapevine that he drove all the way there. He faced B.J. Ussery from North Carolina first round and lost, 9 to 7.

Good friends Gabe Owen and Jeremy Jones will face off today. It's tough when you've got to play a good friend early in an event.

IPT Member Austin Murphy, the young 12-year-old who hails from Northern California, is in the house, and he's scheduled to play Chris McDonald today, a player who used to follow the tournament trail in days gone by. I'm sure Austin is gearing up for the N.A. 8-Ball Championship next month in Vegas.

Ernesto Reyes. Is he any relation to Efren? He won his first round, 9 to 1. With a name like Reyes, he must get asked that question all the time, if he's related to The Magician.

I am following the tournament from the cockpit of my computer and hope others will chime in with updates when they are available. This weekend, there's Shannon Daulton's tournament in Knoxville, which also includes Earl Strickland on a challenge table, and, of course, the IPT qualifier in Atlanta, which I know is going to draw a lot of big dogs.

Brackets

It's nice to see the winner's brackets posted on AZ. But what are they doing with the losers? Are they going into some hidden kitty?

I think Deuel and Orcullo are also playing in only the second round. Only three of my friends are playing and two are scheduled to play each other today.

Years ago Louis Ulrich and his girlfriend (now wife?) entered the tourney and drew each other in the first round out of over 200 players. How's that for bad luck?

Kim Davenport wins first and second round matches with 9-0 whitewashes. Is he getting back into pre-injury form? That's great news if he is - I'm looking forward to seeing him at the Open this year (assuming he's going).

One of the guys from my league is still alive on the winners side this morning....so we'll see how far he gets this year: Bob Brown. All the rest of the league members have dropped to the losers side...not sure why it is not being posted as well..just a bunch of empty brackets.

Link to the brackets.

Woot! My pal Andy is doing ok... he's got a tough match next though.

The loser's brackets are there - they're the left sides of the blue/yellow globs. Though it appears the top/left loser's side bracket isn't being updated...

A few local guys made the trip down from Calgary, both IPT'ers. Tyler Edey has won his first match on the losers side, Edwin Montal is into the third round on the winners side and faces a tough task in Rodney Morris.

Our Seattle-area locals have fared well thus far... Dan Louie, Todd Marsh, Rich Geiler, Scott Chandler and Vancouver, BC native, Stan Tourangeau are all still alive on the "A" side. :)

We've got 6 guys still on the winner's from the NW/NW CN - Scott Chandler, Dan Louie, Geiler, Stan Tourangeau, Edwin Montal, and Todd Marsh.

Edit - Hey Dave, I see you beat me to it!

Go Michelle Rakin against Parica! Also cheers for Monk (Warren Costanza).

The match-up between Edwin Montel and Rodney Morris will be a good one. Edwin spanked Tony Chohan playing even. Rodney is hitting 'em strong, as evidenced by his good showing at recent events. I'd hate to have to lay a line on this one. ;)

Corey Deuel versus Dennis Orcollo will be another battle. :p

Huh? What is that all about? Our guys are still on the A side, so far. I forgot another neighbor in CN - Bill Ganne still on the winner's and he can sure play too!

Reno tourney, a day late and a dollar short?

The tournament started Tuesday and this is Thursday so they are way behind for updating. All those matches probably played last night. They should have played at least 250 matches.

got home from Reno today

Left Reno for home today....

December's winner Wiseman is out...didn't finish in the money....Jeremy Jones sent buddy Gabe Owen to the B side...Edwin Montal didn't give Rodney much of a chance (9-3)...Dennis Orcullo sent Corey Deuel to the B side...Kim Davenport and Jose Parica still on winner's side.......

Wow! Good one for Montal. I'd like to see Orcullo grab the whole bag!
