We have a new comer ( Roadrunner ) with No transactions just a few posts , PMing me and I dont know who else asking for us to give him rep so he has a bunch of greenies . yesterday he had one , now he has a bunch . Is this Right ?????

To answer your question, yes, the rep points system is totally broken and has been for quite a while. The most amusing feature is that if you get red rep from one of the people with the most rep points (there is a 100-way tie) you seem to get green rep instead.

Don't pay any attention to the number of greenies. The color is not always a good indicator, either.

Rep is meaningless on this forum, with the exception of when somebody sends a meaningful comment with the rep.

Read the threads and posts and you'll now who the greatest contributors to the forum are.

If somebody makes a truly exceptional post, I'm more inclined to PM them than send rep.

I dont use that very often either . Really forgot about it . jim

I just figured out how to check my "rep" an hour ago been on here for 3 months. To quote a wise little bear "I am just a little bear and not very bright"; rep I dunno but it seems as though it's one of those things that only comes into play when there is a real a$$h843 out there. Look at my all time favorite poster, Poolkillers/Poolkillers81/Black-wing. Oh I really miss him/her, and I never got to witness the "ram shot" on tape.

The following statement needs to be a sticky in the Wanted/ For Sale section:

Attention: Just because someone comments on how nice the item is that you are selling and gives your thread a bump does not mean you should give them rep!

The scammers on here do this to build up their post counts and t get rep.

Look at every one of sc5's user names; he started out by posting in WFS by telling people how nice their cues are, got his rep and post count up, then tried to get bets down in the action room.

Bet if I check, Roadrunner is sc5 and will be banned soon.

Edit: God I'm good. Looked at roadrunner's posts, nothing but short worthless comments, mostly in WFS. Building rep and post counts to either welch on bets in the action room or rip people off in the for sale section.

I agree with PT. Its a nice way to chat.
I offer one up for a meaningful post or something that makes me laugh.

I got most of mine for being a smart a ss jokester so I have always enjoyed reading the comments that come along with a Greenie.

PS - Good post PT. I sent you a Greenie.

Is this the same Road Runner that has been selling cues and attaching zip files for pictures.

If it is or isn't, what a Bone Head. Last thing I'm doing is opening an unknown Zip File just for a picture.

Help a brother out. What is a Rep & a Greenie. To me a Rep is someone's reputation. A Greenie is is a Green Stamp(from the 50's/60's). Thanks

could someone explain how to give/get a greenie and "chat" via greenies??
and how are greenies and rep co related??
sorry for my ignorance

Agree 100%,
should furthermore mean also for the receiver a bit more :-)

In the upper right of every post is an icon of a scale. Cursor over it and it will say "add to (ex.) bbs reputation". Click on it and a new field opens that allows that person to make a comment and give good rep or bad rep. The poster receiving the rep can view this by clicking (towards upper of a page) on "User CP". (CP means Control Panel).

Every new member starts with one green box in the upper right of their posts. When someone gives them good rep, it adds more green boxes. The more good rep a person has, the more boxes it will add to a new member.

Also, you will accumalate rep points that you view in your CP. It maxes out at just over 2 billion.

Briefly...

In the upper right hand corner of each post, next to the post number, is a button. If you hold your cursor over that button, it mention adding to that posters reputation.

When you push that button, it gives you the option to Approve of Disapprove of that particular post. And a box to write why. When you do that, it will send that into the system, which affects the green (or red) boxes under that persons post count. Thus, the term "greenies".

In theory, the more "Approves" a person gets, the more green boxes they get, and a higher "rep" count. The higher the rep count, the more weight that poster has when giving rep to others, both positive and negative. It takes many "Disapproves" to change a poster from green to red, and similarly, just a few greens to change someone who is red at that time.

It's supposed to be an indicator.

The system is broken, in many way, especially in how it's used. And there is a cap to how much rep someone can have with many tied at "max rep". (Somehow, even I have hit max rep.) So it's not a terribly accurate system. But it still can be a fun way to compliment someone on a good comment, or a funny one.

***EDIT*** Too late. :p
