replacing new tip

i am so impressed with all the info found here, i need a little advise please. i live in central america so the proper tools simply aren't available. i need to replace the tip on my predator cue and have a moori med tip as replacement. my available tools, unless there are other suggestions, are a razor blade, loctite super gel and sandpaper (180)........i have a fear of the ferrule and sandpaper..keeping it flat while sanding....what should i do? this will be the first time i have tried this! please help!

That may be easier said than done where he's at in Central America.

But, the OP obviously has internet access, so my suggestion would be to check out the many gadgets that Porper offers (tip shavers, clamps, etc.) and order what ne needs.
 
Assuming that the razor blade has a straight edge, you shouldn't need to sandpaper the ferrule. Just use the blade to get a flat surface.
Getting a flat surface on the tip will need sand paper. My advice is to lay the paper down and rub the tip on it with very little pressure. Too much pressure and you will find it very difficult to get it flat.
Once the tip has dried, getting it flush with the ferrule without scouring the ferrule is the tricky bit. It is not really a problem, but you need to be careful. And sober.

you flipped from the side of the tip to the glue side all in your own mind!

And a razor to trim the sides...damn near impossible w/out a lathe.
 
thanks to everyone........it all sounds scary! maybe i can find someone local witha lathe. thanks for the offer of sending you the shaft and tip to fix for me.....but, being in central america it would take 3 weeks or more for turn around and that would be with your doing it within one hour of getting it! how would i practice everyday! there are no mailboxes or street addresses here either! don't even ask about the tables! (i take my own set of aramith balls)......thanks again!
 
If you have an electric drill, perhaps you can make a shaft turner by buying a crutch tip. If you search this forum, you'll find various threads explaining exactly how to do it. It's not a lathe but it comes in so handy for tip replacement. Good luck with your quest.

if you order an ultimate tip tool online, you can use your sand paper to get the tip close to the ferulle without actually touching it, or you can order a tip that's already close to the mm that you need and use the side bars of the tip tool to grind it down to .001 from the ferulle without ever really touching the ferrule. You'll be better off using a lathe or having someone with a lathe do it for you, but that will work....

get a piece of plastic tubing pvc 1/2 inch cut in half then glue sandpaper to the inside use this to trim down tip this should keep from cutting ferrule
