REPUTATION vs. iTRADE

I have always understood how your general reputation points is essential to your credibilty and popularity here on AZ...

However, I just recently learned of iTrade and can see how important and invaluable that can be as well to how other fellow AZr's perceive you...

So which leads me to this question... Which one is more important to one's credentials or are both considered equally ?

I'm a wee bit confused  with the infrastructure of AZ and what constitutes the "in" and the "out" regarding mainstream members....

As always your feedback is greatly appreciated !

i would say the reputation points are more important. they basically say "i have made a fair amount of intelligent/useful/entertaining posts in my time on AZ". and generally, you have to have been around a while to get quite a bit of rep.

however the i-trader is useful for buyers and sellers because lets say a user doesnt post particularly much and doesn't have that much rep or is not that well known, he still might have traded with quite a few people and a positive record for those deals can be invaluable.

i suppose they are about equal in importance and it just depends on the context a lot of the time.

My opinion

Currently, Reputation is given freely for comments, observations, etc., that others find interesting, useful, funny. Rep can be given out to people for any reason, and just shows someone's appreciation for one of your posts, comments, actions. In the past, those dark days before itrader,:p it was the only thing we had to acknowledge good trades/deals/sales, but with the invention of i-trader, it is less about dealing, and just about someone appreciating something you do. Could be given for a trade/deal/sale/action.

itrader is the rating system used by buyers, sellers, and traders to comment about specific sales/trades/purchases between AZB'ers. It shows the reliability of one to follow through on a deal/sale/purchase. A way to show how trustworthy a person has been in the past, based on earlier SPECIFIC dealings.

So some of the old guys around here have lots of Reputation for both dealings and posts that people liked. I have not been on for a long time here on AZB, but some of my rep had to do with specific trades/sales/purchases - therefore, I should have more itrader points, but I was around for a little while before itrader became reality.
Using both rep and itrader ratings together, a good gauge on one's actions can be determined - in both transactions(sales/trades/purchases) and in their general comments and actions while on AZB. It isn't perfect, but it is the best thing we got.

Its very simple Eddie,
If you come on here with your own set of beliefs and ideas and speak your mind, and IT IS NOT what the "clique" members think, the you get flamed!

If you disagree with a "clique" member you get flamed!

If you think outside the box differently than a "clique" member you get flamed.

I am willing to bet i know more or as much about pool than 98% of the posters yet sometimes i make a comment and get no response or immediately get flamed because i "debunk" a "clique" members post.

A few examples people who think they are "pro" players and are not, or my favorite someone who makes a comment about " how you should just step up and gamble with whomever walks in the door" and that " you are a nit if you ask for info on a player" because that was the way it was back 50 years ago. But the best part is when you question that member teacher oh i mean "clique" member he conveniently says he doesn't gamble. big surprise.

Some advice for you Eddie if you want respect:

1. start a company.
2. break the law
3. target old people with bad credit
4. promise then things to get them to believe you and then screw them
5. get sued and start all over again
6. bring money and ask to flip a coin for it
7. name drop
8. act like you can play when in fact you cannot play a lick (this goes for a lot of "clique" members"
9. flame newbies and outsiders everypost
10. mention money in EVERRRRRRRRRRY post

Those 10 things should put you well on your way to being a GREAT forum member here.

But if you have a conscience and cant do that then you will have to just be like 95% of us and just read and enjoy the non- nonsense post and never be able to contribute or have anyone listen to you at all.

Hope this helps.

"reputation" points here are almost as worthy as used toilet paper IMO.... I've gotten more rep points for funny remarks than anything...

iTrader should be to verify legitimate buyers/sellers.....

When BUYING, SELLING and/or TRADING "I-TRADER" is the ticket.

Many respected, fair and reliable potential business "PARTNERS" don't play the rep game.

That's quite a cynical post cincyman. I am CERTAINLY not a member of what you consider to be the clique and am fortunate to still have my eyebrows in tact after the rather large amount of flames directed at me from time to time.

I've been banned twice due to numerous complaints from certain sectors...with the second one being promptly rescinded by the way based on the fairness and excellent judgment of the moderators here.

I've done more than my share of flaming too...but have done my best to "reform" and as a result, I have accumulated quite a large quantity of positive Rep.

ALL factions of any society...cyber or otherewise...form into affinity groups as a function of fundamental human nature. It is for the related populations to function within those societies as best they can and to try to light candles and not curse the darkness that such affinity groups will inevitably impose.

So Eddie... post from your mind and your heart as you see fit. Try your best to keep it relatively civil and the members...the majority of which post here infrequently if at all...will give you plenty of REP even amidst any fire storms that may erupt from certain sectors of the population.

Controversy is the fuel of education.

Regards,
Jim

Damn. A bit bitter are we?

Rep is what it is. You stick around long enough and post enough you will get plenty. Someone with no green dots who posts an intelligent well thought out post or something useful or helpful has just as much "value" to the forum as anyone. It is just a function of forum interaction for people to show appreciation to one another for something that they like. It really doesnt mean anything other than someone had some people appreciate something they posted.

iTrader makes a lot of sense for the active buyers and sellers here. It seems to be much more of a practical tool than rep is.

Not bitter at all!! Just my opinion, I would have never guessed YOU would be the first to comment on one of my posts.!

Thats weird!!

I read this for fun and because i need something to do at 2 am when i am up with my newborn, but i do get tired of ( yes you included) reading people flame other newbies or people who dont post a lot because you disagree, and you of all people should not because YOU are trying to sell a product,

Why would you be rude to someone ever??? A bit bitter? maybe

ITs the internet lighten up !! My post was half joke /half truth .

But you think of all the people who always post in yours and other "clique" members threads and i bet ( just a hunch:eek: ) you will find the same names over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. get it?

Just to clarify my intentions

I appreciate the responses and explainations regarding my inquiry....

However, I just wanted to elaborate a little bit on my reasoning for asking...

I do NOT desire nor intend involving myself with "cliques" or certain "groups" here on AZ... I thrive on being an individual, and are NOT of the "norm", definitley speak my mind ! and have never been much of a conformist or a team player... besides at the prices I sell my cues for, I can't afford anymore friends !

So I was not asking this advice and seeking explainations to gain acceptance with any particular persons, cliques or groups, just with general AZ'rs and potential customers ..

I do appreciate the many acquaintances I have made, the custom cue inquires and the new customers I have gained and converse with on a regular basis here due to my upfront tell-it-like-it-is persona, quality work and realisitic affordable prices !

I'm becoming aware of a certain conduct and unsaid code... and I attempt to follow it whenever possible... but this whole iTRADE and REPUTATION thing was a bit unclear...

So once again, thanks for the help !

Sincerely, Eddie Wheat

I figured that might upset you a lil bit. Who is my boy, and who are you, being that I know nobody in Cinci?

It was funny, doesn;t upset me. I dislike all people who take advantage of other people, and my post had references to others as well not just him.

But this is exactly the type of posts i mean. You cannot say one thing about a "clique" member and already 2 of the 5 people i suspected would post in this thread and that should upset YOU. Let the flaming continue.

Hey maybe if you get closer up thier ass FB might drop a $20 or TAR might drop a DVD and you could pick it up and say

" here ya go spike, here spike, here ya go spike here"
I will find the cartoon for you but i know you know what i am talking about.

Wow. I have a clique? Sweet. I just thought I had made some friends here. Maybe you should try it some time. It is fun.

As for the same names in the threads....uhh yeah. When people who know each other talk on a message board they generally post in each others threads. I have played pool with, drank with, laughed with, gambled with, shared hotel rooms with, and even went into business with people from this forum. If that makes me a bad guy in your eyes I don't know what to tell you.

You keep that angry loner against all the cool kids thing going. It is working for you. I bet you got a black trench coat in your closet. Come on admit it....you cool guy you.
