Surely i am not the only member here who played in the ACUI
nationals and was required to wear a suit! Don't remember the year for sure , 84 if I had to guess, Held in Arlington Texas.
Thanks for jogging the memory,Jack
P.S. I represented region 10 , and no I didn't win it.

Imo any pro sport pool, billiards ,snooker ,etc should have some sort of standardised uniform. Like in snooker! The big heads in the industry should get together and decide on it, i think it will really help the game in terms of popularity. People will see these amazing people shoot amazing shots and they will strive to be like them and you know what noobies do, they go out and get the gear! From pool cues to tip tappers to uniform! Sometimes i really cringe to see some pro pool players dress in baggy basketball attire ==... Feels totally unprofessional to watch and that pool isnt a serious game. Dont yall agree?

I hear you on this. My son wears his hat a bit sideways and it took me about 5 years before I quit telling him to fix it. On a positive note though, I never quit telling him to pull his pants up and now he finally doesn't look like he crapped his pants.

I would like see pros wear suit in more formal tournament, this would make pool look more a serious game. I really hate when I see player playing with a hat on, this makes pool looks like ping pong. I understand there are more informal tournament like the dcc but you should not look like you are going to a baseball march and look decently dressed

Easy there on the hats......not all are created equal and my fedora and my potato sack hat would agree lol

Tho i def agree on attire, tho I have never thought we should wear a suit and tie, I do try and dress for the occasion. I always try and put on nice clothes, that fit for starters lol.

I'll usually just wear my hat and a decent shirt and jeans but like to wear nicer clothes the nicer the event.....for example last years Tulsa One Pocket classic.

Up for review to the rail is exhibit "A" and "B" the first is from that saturday and the second is from the sunday......the same sunday that the WHO DAT nation won the super bowl.

Everyone basically dressed pretty well there....I can remember seeing anyone wearing real baggy and crappy clothes.

actually Dave looks hilarious in the pics my buddy took while he and I were talking lol.....would be a good candidate for caption this photo

I can't find my dam potato sack hat either .....if you see it let me know lol i think someone stole it and sold it at the pawn shop lmfao

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a "t-shirt and jeans" guy. That said, last night I did my annual exhibition at Sheridan College, in Sheridan, WY. I wore my normal 'professional' attire...sportcoat and tie, pressed dress shirt & slacks, and shined dress shoes (as I do every time I perform an exhibition). I will do the same thing when I'm at the University of Montana very soon. I've been doing this for the past 15 years. Long ago, someone very intelligent came up with the slogan, "Dress for Success". I believe in it. If you want to be paid like a professional, dress professionally, and act professionally.

I won the ACUI Collegiate Nationals this year and there was no requirement to wear a suit and tie at the event. There was a standardized dress code however. All participants had to wear collared shirts, slacks and dress shoes. No jeans, sneakers, t-shirts etc. The event was represented well with some sharply dressed individuals.

My Buddy Dave Uwate, (Uwate on the forums), he won the ACUI title back in 92 and there was no suit and tie requirement during that event either.

Whoever invented neck ties and tight collars should be shot. In most "sports" the clothing is designed to fit the sport and there would be very few sports where a suit or tie is the order of the day. The clothing should be comfortable and non-restrictive.

Putting pool players in a uniform does nothing to add to the pool player's sportsmanship or demeaner. Conduct is far more important than attire.

We no longer live in a formal society.

Professional Wrestling participants should wear a suit and tie--Oh wait, its not a sport!

doesn't mean anyone wants to see pro's wearing the latest fubu gear, just at least be somewhat classy and not trashy

maybe not a sport b/c obviously its rigged....but they are no doubt athletes just the same.....you have to be able to move/breath/function in your clothing while you perform.

You don't see distance runners wearing slacks do you? No of course not but there is a standard of attire.

Nothing beats playing while wearing thick soled dress shoes with calf high socks, striped 100% cotton boxers, and a wife beater...it's sooo comfortable, and it just screams 'class'! :D

Scott Lee,

When will you be at University of Montana? I live about 85 miles north and might want to come and watch.

I think the last time I wore a Suit, or Jacket & Slacks & Tie to work was before 1983. When I work Priniting Equiptment & Supplies. May have worn a Suit, or Jacket & Slacks & Tie to some formal thing I had to go to in the last 80's. But now I wear Jeans, T-Shirts, & Tennis Shoes, or Cowboy Boots. I may for something special put on a Shirt with Collar for something special. but if I can not go some place in Jeans, T-Shirts, & Tennis Shoes, or Cowboy Boots I do not go.

Big Arm...Tuesday evening, Nov. 30, 6-11pm, at the University Center gameroom. You're welcome to come. The exhibition is from 6-8pm, and is open to the public. The clinic I'm doing afterwards is just for students. If you come, please come up and introduce yourself. I always enjoy meeting AzBr's!

I think if its a BIG event than yes a dress code should be in effect. Funny but when i was at the Bob Stocks tournament Sigel congradulated me for dressing the part (handsome button down and desginer jeans with black dress shoes) instead of a slopy look.

He told me that the lst Mezz Tour event he played in he saw guys dressed in shorts and flip flops!! Mike couldnt believe that they let the players dress like this

I know its Mike but in a way he is right!! I wouldnt dream of playing in a pro event not looking clean and sharp

I think there should most assuredly be a dress code for all pro events.

While i wont go sor far as as suit and tie " mainly because a try finding a dress shirt with a 25" neck that wouldnt choke me to death inside an hour lol" but A nice collared shirt , slacks and dress shoes would do nicely.

theres just something that bugs the hell out me when a guy shows up to play an event looking like he dressed to watch sunday football in his living room

I told my wife about it and she thought it might be fun, so we just might come down and watch. A good excuse to take the next day off! Do you come here ever to give lessons? I don't think that I am even worthy of lessons. I just began playing again after many a year lay off and if there is a level below D, I might attain that, but think lessons would be fun.

Most professional sports teams have dress codes for travel between games/events . There was a big stink in the NBA when they placed a dress code on the players when traveling to games and to and from arenas .

They make casual twill pants with expandable waists now , pleated and flat front , and polo shirts are pretty comfortable , they are basically a little heavier t- shirt with a collar.

Heck , the reason for not allowing people to sit in centerfield at pro baseball games is because most of the men wore white collared shirts and the batter couldn't pick up the ball.

People who did manual labor dressed up on Saturdays and Sunday's to distinguish between work and leisure . Look at the crowd at a football or baseball game from the 50's or 60's and you'll see what i mean , the fans were at least dressed dressy casual.

Pool is a game , not a sport , it was considered a parlor game for many years . If you play in a bar, dress like your going to a bar , if your playing at a convention center or casino dress up a little.

This isn't an issue in continental Europe , i see our buddies in Britain are a little less formal at blackball and 9 ball tourny's . In the Philippines i see players shirtless wearing gym shorts and flip flops.
