Rest in peace, Grady.

rest in peace grady

his passing will be a great loss to all of us who knew him and i sure will miss him a lot though he was a great pool player and he will be missed

While I didn't know him, my impression of Grady was that his character type is the stuff of legends.

I've always admired him because he was not ashamed to live as he saw fit, conventionally or unconventionally. His life seemed to be a series of adventures and mis-adventures, strung together to form one great story, each branded with his own style of chutzpah.

I must say I feel like I've lived a timid life compared to him. My best wishes and condolences to the family. We will miss Grady.

Grady just passed away. He was surrounded by friends and family. His passing was quiet and painless.

God bless you, Mr. Mathews. You will be deeply missed by all.

Rest in peace, Professor... Truly a giant in the pocket billiards world.

My fondest memory in pool was when I played him in an exhibition. I may may have learned more from him than any other individual on earth. RIP champ.

Grady was a true gentleman to the core. God bless Grady Mathews and Dick Clark, both legends. RIP

Great guy

He showed me the jersey red shot till I got it. I learned how to play listening to him on Accu-stats.

Grady will be missed. He did more for this game than most will ever know. Enjoy playing 1P with the man upstairs Grady! Rest in peace my friend.

rip grady

grady was a true ambassador to the pool world, he will truly be missed. grady did an exhibition in my pool room 8 years ago, it was very educational and entertaining. i loved allof his commentary on the old accu stat videos. rip grady gary and vicki henry owners of garys victor billiards.

Grady can't read all these nice accolades we're writing about him, but thankfully, many of us let him know in person, when he was alive and vibrant and ornery, how much we loved him.

I've had so many great times over the years in pool.....meeting and spending time talking with Earl, Shannon, Nick, Allen Hopkins, Buddy, etc. But I'd have to say that the single best highlight ever was the 4 hour supper I had with Grady. I've told & retold that story many times over the years here, but it was just an unbelievably fun experience to sit there, pick his brain like a chicken bone, have him regale me with so many funny stories, his 'inside scoop" or opinions on the other great champions, etc, etc. To this day, whenever me & my wife go to that restaraunt, I get sentimental when I look at the place where we sat.

As for his passing.....just like so many of you have also said, it was crushing to hear that Grady was on his death bed. None of us are going to live forever here on this earth, as it's appointed unto each of us to die at some point. But guys like Grady, when they pass, a big chunk of our heart gets wounded. He's been a part of our lives in pooldom for so many years. Literally hundreds of hours (if not thousands) listening to his commentary......watching his matches......reading his articles, exchanging e-mails or phone calls....and now, our beloved Professor is gone.

I loved him a lot. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried when I heard he had finally passed. He'll not be forgotten.

I never got to meet him personally but I did exchange a few messages with him here on AZ. I had a few questions about straight pool and, to my amazement, he replied to me within a few hours with some excellent advice. I always enjoyed listening to his commentary on Accu-Stats videos so it was really great to get some personal advice from the man himself.

I think each and every one of us has some sort of Grady tale. I'm not a very religious person, and am not so convinced there is something after this. If there is though, I hope he's up there robbin' 'em blind.

Rest in peace, Grady.
MULLY
