Rhino shaft buyers, let 'er rip.......

Rhino vs Cynergy 12.5mm comparison, continued:

Hearing from others about black dust residue on their Rhino, I went looking for it, first by wiping it firmly with a dry paper towel. A very slight bit of darkening could be seen on the white paper towel - it would have been easily missed if I was just casually looking. Next, I used one of the 75% ethanol CF cleaning wipes that came with my Cynergy, aggressively rubbing it from tip to joint for 30 seconds or so. The wipe looked like this, and it took 3 more wipes and 5 minutes of vigorous rubbing before black residue stopped coming off:

Here's a short video where you may be able to hear the difference in smoothness when sliding each cue through my hand:

Here's a short video where I hit a few balls firmly with each shaft, so you can hear what a strike sounds like. Note: I say the Rhino has a medium tip in this video, but that was before I realized it had a soft mounted.

Here's a short video of a pretty interesting difference between the two shafts, but likely meaningless. When held near the joint end and struck on the heel of my hand near the tip, its resonant tone is about 1 octave lower than the resonant tone of the Cuetec shaft, which has a much higher ringing pitch when struck. There's no way a 1" difference in length would account for this much of a pitch change, so I'm really curious what's going on to cause it:

Hope all that was useful, or at least interesting, to y'all.

Excellent videos. What cue butt are you using?

The Cuetec Cynergy Truewood II in wrapless ebony. Love it, especially the optional 2-piece composite screw-on Duo extension (3 and 6”), which is super lightweight and rigid. At 6’3” I usually leave one of them on depending on table size.

Also have the Breach break cue in Ghost finish, and the Propel jumper with the red CF butt.

I’ve owned several custom cues over the years, incl Lambros, Lomax, and Scruggs. Done with those. (Never thought I’d say that, actually.)

Thank you. Excellent content.

Been playing with the new shaft after the Christmas weekend. Is a very nice shaft, especially for the sale price of $169 USD. I like the weight, the long pro taper, the fact that the joint pin hole was tapped long enough to use with my longer Carmeli 3/8x10 modified pin and easily adjusted to the 30" inch length. I think I ended up getting a soft tip or the medium tip is on the softer side. The tip could be tapered inward just a bit more, especially if it ever mushrooms out after some play. One thing I noticed after some play is that this shaft plays more like a maple shaft than any other carbon fiber shaft that I've played with, including the Revo, Cuetech, McDermott and an off-brand, which means it was much easier for me to adjust to this shaft as I usually do not like or play with low deflection shafts of wood or carbon fiber. I wonder if this is a carbon fiber cue with a maple core or is it foam filed with a similar / equivalent density of wood? Also, I think the shaft could have been packed a little bit better to prevent any shipping damage.

Also, I never received my free gift of an additional soft layered tip.

The first time I ordered it was sent separately. I just got 3 more on Saturday and each one was in the box at the joint end.

Sbrownn, check the black box the shaft was in, it was in there, easy to miss. Hopefully you're garbage hasn't been picked up yet. If you ordered med tip, thats what the spare will be.

AFAIK no quality cf cue has a maple core. Meucci has wood inserts but not full-length. All cf shafts that i know of/have hit have some type of foam/polymer core.

Well i started this little AZ buying frenzie so lets hear some takes, the good/bad/ugly. Feel free to talk about the shaft(s) itself, cust. service, whatever's in your head. Me personally am really digging the shaft. I've tested a bunch but this is 1st cf purchase. I have zero complaints, the product and the customer service are both first rate imo. A lot of pool related co's could learn a few things from how this outfit operates. Fire away fellow Rhino drivers!!!
Ditto!!

Mine finally came after shipping snafu. 30", 12.9 or 13mm, 5/16 - 14 for a Joss butt. Forgive me. I got a wild hair. It happens. Was impressed w the shaft!! Joint fit like a glove and the insert was brass or brass colored aluminum, not phenolic as expected. Made the shaft back heavy but once screwed down seemed fine. Hit was solid, shaft wasn't as dirty as some on here I've seen. Good solid hit and feel, very close to wood and no ping. Predictable outcomes. For the coin, unbeatable!!👍🏻
