So sorry for the loss of your best friend Petey. A best friend is someone to be cherished and someone who you will never forget. Pool is so awesome in that regard. It brings close friends closer as they share experiences and helps create a more powerful bond, something that can't really be shared with those outside of our realm. I had a similar experience not long ago and it was a very difficult time for me too. Eventually, the feelings of emptiness and sorrow were erased by the great memories I had of times with my buddy. It was a slow process, but I can now think of him with a smile on my face, and I know that's what he would have wanted.

Best wishes,

Chris

My heart goes out to you and his family. I too have lost a best friend...that was ten years ago...I still tear up sometimes when I think of the loss...but mostly the memories make me smile as I remember all the good times and how he was one of those people who made me want to be a better person.

Hang in there Petey.

As Chris mentioned, over time the sadness will give way to fond memories.

RIP, Mike Slaughter.

That’s good to hear. I’d bet my house Mike would’ve hated the thought of you giving up the game - that which gave you two so much joy.

I don’t know you, I didn’t know Mike. But I know this, if I lost my best friend, of course I would be rocked for a long time. And my best friend, if he were able to talk to me, would absolutely tell me to carry on, and carry our memories with me always, and do what I (we) loved to do, until we can meet again. And I’ll bet your buddy would feel the same.

I’m sorry about the hurt, but you’ve already figured out that it gets better, slowly.

Chin up and carry on. Take care and good for you that your hitting balls again.

But For The Grace Of God Go I......

I was told this as a young man and I’ve learned it is true.

When God’s angel comes to greet you into paradise, you
will be asked if you can name a true friend for every finger
and thumb on both of your hands. Most people dismiss the
notion responding I have a lot more friends than that but do
they really or do they just know more people. Friends are more
rare than you think and neither time nor distance changes that.

Here is my measure of a true friend & it applies equally both ways.

Any Time........Any Place........Any Thing.........I will be there for you.
How many of us have learned that pals & acquaintances are very
different and a lot more common than a genuine, true friend for life?

So when you wind up losing a friend, the gaping hole it leaves can
never be filled entirely because true friends are more rare than you
think and as you go through life, you will acquire wisdom proving
real friends can never be replaced, forgotten or taken for granted.
