Road Player wins tour stop but wants to remain anonymous

Hey gang, I have one that I really want to get off my chest. I received the usual slew of tourney results from this weekend and received the following picture from one of the tour events.

It seems that the winner is a road player and doesn't want his picture on the internet (presumably because it will kill his action).

The room owner and sponsors of the tour added money and/or product to make the event a success and they do that in exchange for the promotion from the event. I assume this player didn't offer to give the money back that he won since he was not allowing the tour to promote those sponsors properly.

Am I wrong at thinking this sort of thing is very 'dark ages' and is doing nothing at all for the game of pool?

Well was it known at the start of the tourny that his Pic woudl be taken and posted all over the net ? Did he sign an agreement when entering the tourny saying he woudl promote their event for them? Just something to think about cause if they guy is making a living doing this then having his name and pic slammed thru the net woudl kill his living. Now if he agreed to all this before hand and then didnt want to have his face on the net he woudl be wrong.

just my thoughts

Unknown bandit.

I think it is kind of funny.
Denis Strickland in Houston taught me a valuable lesson. You (the promoter) have to be trusted by the players and the supporters (buyers etc).
I take on his same policy, If you enter one of my tournaments, you get knocked!
So, no, I wouldn't stand for that silly crap.

he could live in anonymity the rest of his life and just hustle in back rooms, bar tables, and high school kids,,,,but he chose to enter a tour stop. he gave up his anonymity.

Larry Price done the same thing a couple of years ago at the DCC. He wins the BAnks tourney, and is a no-show for pictures.

He won't be unknown too much longer...

...unless people just let it go.

When ever a stunt like this happens and it gets some steam rolling, his picture will show up or his name. This will go even more wrong than the guy wanted it to, in the beginning. He will get even more famous before it is said and done.

He shouldn't have played or placed if he really cared that much his anonymity.

If it was a tournament open to the public, then you require no permission to use his picture or name for journalistic purposes.

If the guy is making a living "old-style" by hiding his true speed; why would anyone want to help him? This "hustler's code" stuff is lame; a real black-eye for an otherwise elegant pasttime. JMO.

From now on ...

I will ask every road player I come across with a
build like that to pull a stocking cap down over his
face, so I can see if it is him? Is this Pool's version
of the Unknown Comic? ... lol

I don't believe the players in most of these small tournaments can be considered as public figures. The sponsor has no right to exploit him for their personal gain with out his permission. The pool room already got their payback when he played in the tournament for their customers entertainment with no guarantee of return and the pool room may have charged the customers an admission fee if not directly in the consideration of them coming in and spending money in the room. In many sports players of note get appearance fees. You get world champions come to tournaments and the promoter gets the value of their appearances do they or their sponsor ever pay the players a fee? In my opinion the player owes the room owner or sponsor nothing more unless they have an agreement and are willing to pay. If players made better livings I would no longer expect to see them traveling at their own expense and promoting pool room and tours for nothing like they do now.

What's wrong is the guy standing next to him has this for a picture (for his livingroom) of his own great personal accomplishment ruined by the selfish idiot standing next to him. I still think the whole thing is dumb. No picture, then don't paly. Had I been there and saw all this, I would have boo'd the guy out of there for being selfish jerk. People always thinking of themselves...ugg!

All I can say is that is funny as hell!!! LOL:D Thats good stuff! What tour stop was it?

Any TRUE hustler or road player would have entered the tournament and dumped BIG-TIME... losing to some hacks right in front of all of the tourney players.... to prime the action on later matches...

If he wants to be a gambler/road player fine. But when he enters an open tournament, he has to know that people are going to find out who he is. If he wants to keep his identity secret, stay out of open tournaments and remain in the back rooms of pool halls late at night. Of course, his identity will still start to circulate, just at a slower rate.
The guy is a jerk!
