***Robb Saez Needs Sponsers***

The Robb Saez I know is a person I'll always consider a friend. He's a genuine intelligent person who plays pool at a very HIGH level and has a passion and knowledge for the game that many of his peers do not.

I wonder how pathetic some peoples lives must be to be so negative about someone they don't even know on a personal level. Even if you have seen him act a certain way, okay? Have none of you stone throwers ever acted in a way that you regretted? To realize that you dedicated your life to achieving a championship level in a lost art is enough to make anyone somewhat ill at times. It's unfortunate that a player of Robb's level has to reach out for help to play in these events. But this is the state of mens professional pool in America.

You people, who supposedly are lovers of the game, tell Robb Saez, a champion level American professional pool player, to get a job. Have you any respect for your chosen sport? How will anyone outside of pool ever respect our game, if our own supposed lovers of it, do not? Imagine if golf had as much money dedicated to it as pool does. Would a golf fan tell Tiger Woods that he should just get a job? That he should give up his chosen sport he dedicated his life to?

Robb Saez is as worthy of a pool player and human being that you could hope to sponsor. Robb's passion in life is to compete at pool. Why not help someone fulfill their life's passion and perhaps get a nice monetary return by helping out a fellow human on their journey through this thing we call life.

Nice post, Deadpoked.

This thread is truly illustrative why professional players should not post on AzBilliards' discussion forum.

Some pros and Hall of Famers are "protected" from nasty comments while in chat rooms by AzBilliards moderators, but on the public forum, it is truly the wild, wild west. Anything can be said by multiple-identified trolls who seem to enjoy ripping apart what few pros are in existence today in the professional pool world. Don't worry, though, because the number of Americans pros is continuing to dwindle.

I used to think it was cool to have pros post on AzBilliards but not anymore. They're better off practicing pool in the pool room than come to AzBilliards and be ridiculed and ripped apart by the very same damn railbirds who come up to them at tournaments and ask for their autograph.

Robb Saez will not benefit from his experience posting on AzBilliards, sad to say,and I strongly suggest he give it up. Pool is cruel to its own. Pool players are regarded as the scum of the earth in the eyes of some of these forum members.

hi everyone,

I don't know the guy I would like to sponsor him but been screwed to many a times by players....
ex...
breaking my cues when angry,

selling my cues off and telling me it was stolen then replacing them, told me it was stolen then replace again etc....you get the point

not mentioning my name when the person won a tournament.

gambling it away for little to nothing (this is the worst for me)

this one guy I sent 5 cues for commission he turned around and under sold "me" with my own cues and I never saw my cut......

what does this guy have or can promise that he would represent a product that I make ... my name attached that would benefit me.
if he has a bad attitude then do I really want to be associated with him?
I can give him a chance as long as promises can be made and a contract could be signed where I can fine him for code of conduct .....
I have more than enough funds to get him where ever he wants to go call me.

like I said code of conduct and respect for others is what I seek....
I am Asian by origin and respect for others is key for me.

I've only known Robb for 6 years........... but I agree with the above. I hope I don't hear any of this negative crap in Louisiana this week! i know several of other people besides me who will be there and might take offense at any negative remarks or accusations towards Mr Saez.

But any "Robb Bashers" ............. Put your money where your mouth is!!!

Rob,

I've known you for a lot of years. From both the Joss and your travels with Shorty and Bernard. I sincerly hope you find what you need to keep playing. As someone once said, "he who is without sin may cast the first stone". Don't know of anyone here at AZ who is worthy of that honor. We all have done things we are not proud of. Hope the OP warned you of the possible reaction before you posted your request. There are two sides to emotional players like you and me. It is also what makes some players, like you, great. Sometimes for the good. Sometimes not so good. See you somewhere along the tournament trail. Very best of luck to you!

Hey Robb it was good seeing and talking to you last night in Vero. I have to admit your destruction of the Russian allowed me to get back on the road since we came together...7 -0 !! I want to say it takes alot of courage to put yourself out there ( for sponsers ) knowing that there are those that can't wait to discourage or disparage. It's good when someone can see in the heart. And for those that can't. It's written that " they hated without cause". The servant is not greater than the master . They hated him first. Thank you for our conversation. With great risks come great rewards. Your Belief will move mountains. Eddie

People always say stuff online that they would never say in person, it is what it is.

Robb is a great player thats always a threat to win anything.

I hope Robb gets some help cause the best pool players should play in tournaments, not just the ones that can afford it.

I dont understand why people feel the need to bash someone behind a screen name.

Good luck Robb

Wow! Brutal! Robb didnt ask anyone to pay his rent he is looking for serious corprate sponsors. We were in Merrit Island Fri nite and he talked alot about how to get all poolplayers better pay. No pro athletes could make it big without sponsors. He doesnt want your $150 entry fee he wants to find a sponsor to promote him while he promotes them.Robb didnt chop the rail.If his temper was what you say it is you should watch what yoy say, that is a serious accusation. As far as his play I believe he has a post that anybodys got action in Miami and I dont see anybody jumpin.Good luck Robb.

I can tell you one thing about Robb he has more Heart and Desire then anyone I have ever met in this game.

Robb has stayed with me, I have sponsored him, driven him, backed him when I have had the chance. He is nothing but a champion and gives 1000% of himself

We both grew up in shall I say more colorful enviroments so our personalities sometimes come accross a little different then others. But one thing that should never be mistaken is the intent and heart behind it. Robb does nothing but what he thinks is best for the game. He wants to win and win and win to have that type of drive you have to have something most people dont have. True champions or masters of there chosen professions, sports, crafts all have a drive that most dont. Robb has that drive and his emotions show that so if you dont like it just be respectful and get out of his way. Because when he is trying to win he is a bull reaching his destination.

Best of Luck Robb you know I always have your back

Not true - Please see below the FIRST post below from Mary Rakin. She got her money from her first post. And she is not the first person nor the last to come on AZ and do so.

And I met Robb Saez in Vegas two years ago and those who know me or read what I type - I am more critical of people than just about anyone. I talked to Robb for about a half an hour and he was intelligent and had a great view of how things are. He wasn't a phoney, which I liked and respected.

Also, on the point of attacking Robb's character or attitude. Someone offer $100 for every 'pro' that I can name that has a sponsor that has character issues, some much more severe that what people say about Robb and I'll have $2000 raised for him by the end of the day.

That would be tourneys.

So I just HAPPENED to be so bored at work that I wanted to read some forums on AZbilliards instead of reading books based on Law since I have been studying to much. =]

However, I feel somewhat ATTACKED by what is being said and first of all...The US Amatuers that I did play in last year was basically my first APA tournament and my friends and family encouraged me to play in it because they felt I had a chance.

I posted something on my facebook account, trying to get some opinions on if I should go or not. Many people told me I should go for it since they knew that I rarely get any opportunities to leave my home for a tournament that can allow me to show what I got.

I knew that I didn't have any funds to sponsor myself since I was, and still am, a college student...who is graduating soon! =]

I raised some money for myself since the trip was going to be expensive. I played almost every local tournament I can so I can raise some money. I even gave some lessons to beginners to raise some money.

As I remember, this person, who is now my friend, came to me on facebook and generiously donated money because he felt I should take this rare opportunity. He then gave me some advice on how to raise funds and suggested to go on Azbilliards. My first post, I have to admit, sounded so demanding. My friend agreed with me on this. I had no clue how to ask and who doesn't know how to ask for help, especially for money?!

Whoever knows me, they know that I am not the person who would ask for help unless it's something that I cannot do by myself. I usually save my money so I can play in tournaments. I also rejected so many invitations to play on the WPBA tour, but it was always bad timing.

So, if anyone wants to attack me on this forum, please think twice because you don't know my side of the story and I think it's quite immature to attack someone that you don't even know.

Also, I have seen Robb Saez play before when he used to play in the Bay Area. I don't think he remembers me since I didn't start playing competitively at the time. He's quite the character. Funny, always friendly, and a great shooter. If I can, I would gladly help out since I am working now and I know how it feels when a pool player can't play in certain tournaments due to financial reasons.

To sum things up, I apologize if some people got the wrong impression from my past posts. I really just wanted to see how I stand with other female competitors. I did take 2nd which I was upset about because many people helped me make it to that tournament...but I did try my best. Plus, I'M FRIENDLY and even though I don't go on here EVERYDAY doesn't mean I just decided to make an account just to ask for money. I love meeting new people, even though I forget their names sometimes and I apologize because I have a bad memory =[

And I know that I don't play that great, especially if I am being compared to Justin Bergman, ALSO a good friend of mine. I do go to school full-time, work two jobs, and I don't have that much time and funds to go out and play pool everyday even though I do work at a pool hall now. I even had a good friend of mine offer me a sponsorship, however, I told him once I graduate and decide what I do in my life, I will let you know. I don't take things for granted. If someone is going to sponsor me, I am going to work hard for it...that's why I felt bad for taking 2nd place.

I just wanted everyone to know my side of the story and thank you to those who had my back. And to Robb, if he's reading this, goodluck and I hope you make it!

Robb i want to tell everyone what i told you. I sent Robb a pm telling him that i wanted to apologize for posting what i did and not sending him a pm first. That would have been the correct way for me to have handled this.
I also explained why i feel like i got chopped. Robb and i have communicated on this and i have come to the conclusion that "mabye" there was a misinterpretation on my part. If Robb is ever back in Atlanta we will sit down and discuss this, he made the offer and i gladly accept.

Rob Saez

Hey Rob you could stop by Gallery Billiards in Newburgh on your way to Turningstone . You might be able to get your room paid for . A simple demonstration on how to kick my a%$ with the 7 and the breaks in 10 ball should do it .

Thank you Eddie for the words of wisdom. I also enjoyed talking with you. All I can do is try and keep believing.

Thanks H20. Lmao!! My rent gets paid I cant help but to laugh. I just cant afford to go to events on my own.

Congats Sir on being a gentelman. Its very rare to see someone admit maybe the spoke out of hand. No one but the players know for sure,I know Robb and weve talked about this instance and he swears he didnt. He has no reason to lie to me and ill admit to some shaddy dealings in the 80s and early 90s when I was young and broke, that doesnt make it right but it was survival at the time, atleast I thought so,but like I said that doesnt make it right. Robb knows some of this and tells me hes never dumped anyone or forfited a match when a calcuta was involved and i have to believe him.Robb can get a little wound up becuase he is so passionate.Has anybody seen Tiger woods cursing the ball, athletes at this level are passionate.Robb is realy working on his image, dress, talk, networking and I think would make a good representitive for a sponsor. Thike ive said hes not looking for Joe the Electricians $100 to get into a tourn, hes looking to take it to the next level with corprate sports oriented sponsors which would bring help to the game we all love.Just being on AZ shows a huge support of billiards in general so I know anyone reading this wants pool to grow.I hope you get it Robb anyone that knows you knows you deserve it.To live the life weve chosen it takes a lot of discipline to stay honest and you my friend are a true sportsman and gentelman.

skipped over most of this

Thanks H20. Lmao!! My rent gets paid I cant help but to laugh. I just cant afford to go to events on my own.

Robb,

First, I see you were chasing a sponsor, not a hand out from the forum, big difference. Chasing sponsors is a tough deal. You need to put together a nice package much like a cross between a resume and a product flyer and it needs to be very professional in appearance. You do have to be aware that you are on stage 24/7 when you are outside of your home or have guests in your home. It is almost like having a job 24/7. I chased sponsorship for about ten years and later considered sponsoring others. I hated how packaging took over my life when I was chasing a sponsor but when I was going to let somebody else represent my business I did put high demands on them. Two mistakes at two different events killed a sponsorship I was going to give someone after I had already earmarked the funds.

I gave a few people short term sponsorships but ultimately decided to help all competitors that came to me a little and not allow any of them to put sponsored by my business on anything other than children's league shirts. My schedule didn't allow me to attend the local circle track for the first few years after I bought my business. When I finally made the trip I was amazed to see that it seemed over half the cars without major sponsorship had a "thanks" note to me somewhere on the car!

When the forum supports someone with voluntary or requested donations the results depend on a lot of things. Who is doing the asking and who for does matter, popular posters like Melinda who are always doing for others get a lot of support. Timing is another huge issue. I never even looked at this thread until this morning. I have helped several people lately and even though it has nothing to do with you I feel like I've given enough recently. Some very deserving people don't get much support simply because of unfortunate timing. I think that is what happened to a junior last year. I made a note of his generosity to someone else and will make a point of helping him if he needs it again.

I didn't mean to write a tome but after reading a few posts I felt it needed saying that I suspect for most forum members the biggest reasons for lack of support is that you are relatively low profile and the timing is poor. I don't think the forum is as up for helping with a season of expenses as for one time events either.

Just my thoughts. Good luck with funding and your career! Remember if it was easy everybody would be doing it. Skill is just the beginning. You need luck and a 24/7 effort to land and hold a decent sponsorship or other relationship with a business that can afford to be of real help.

Hu
