Robin Williams

Goodbye dear Captain, old fellow
so bitter and yet, so mellow
You gave your heart, you seized the day
you lost your way, but who's to blame
Beyond the sea now, is where you lay
you found your peace, in some quiet bay
You left your mark, deep in our hearts
we'll always remember, your fine arts
Goodbye dear Captain, old friend
what a journey was yours, to the very end

Sometimes I really don't understand about this "Depression" as a sickness. I think if you are depressed it is your own fault. A person is depressed but keep on drinking and taking drugs and then kill himself? I love RW since I was a kid, but being depressed when you hold a high status and millions of $$$ and numerous friends? I think people living in slum areas of India, Manila, Africa and other 3rd world countries with no food should be more depressed. If only RW traveled to these areas and lived with them and see their smile even in he most difficult times he will understand more about preserving life.
I am very sadden that RW end comes to this. The most versatile actor in Hollywood.

Wow, as someone who suffers from depression, I find that extremely offensive!

Depression is biochemical not about economics.
It can make your soul hurt to the point you just want to escape. Suicide can be their solution. It never makes sense to the rest of us.

That is not offensive. I suffer from depression when my mom died, but I remember I should not as she had lived a nice and healthy life. That is what I am talking about. If you feel depressed then un-depressed yourself by doing something or traveling or think if you really should be depressed. Depressed by what? A lot of people always say move on, but some don't want to, they want to feel depressed so what can we do? It's their own fault.

Your comment makes it sound like they have chosen to be depressed. No one chooses to be depressed. Depression also has nothing to do with your financial status as you alluded to earlier. It is also not caused by one issue although it can be triggered by one. I had a loved one that lived in the black hole of depression for over two years staying almost exclusively in the bonus room over our garage. After exhausting our medical benefits trying to overcome it our doctors had to turn to ECT treatments. It was emotionally, financially, and physically exhausting and I find your comments quite offensive, ignorant and insensitive to say the least.

You must be the biggest F'n idiot to ever post on this forum. You think depression is a life choice?

Indeed! As I fought depression all my life and alcoholism from an early age I can surely feel what Robin did. Very inappropriate.

You are equating depression to how you feel briefly after a loss? That is not depression. I will do a little Dr. Phil on you. You are a psychotic, sociopath yourself who is far out of touch with reality. I say this because I honestly believe you believe what you are saying. You lack empathy and it is not your fault, you are yourself sick but don't know it.

And no, people like you never kill themselves they are too self centered and selfish. Even your solution to un-depressed as you call it, is to do something self serving. Why not, you are the only thing that matters in this world. It's how you are wired and you can't understand how another may feel different, nor do I think you really care.

Was very sad to hear this. He was incredibly talented and I enjoyed much of his work, I put in Dead Poets Society last night after hearing the news...probably my favorite roll of his.

I actually interacted with him in person briefly once. He was a big cyclist and I've been working in the bike industry off and on since I was 15. Back in 2006/2007 I was working at a big bike shop in Seattle and he was in town for a few nights doing a couple of shows. We got a call from his people saying that he would be coming buy and a little while later a big black SUV pulls up and he comes in to shop around. Turns out he wanted a bike to ride while he was in Seattle so he picked up an inexpensive single speed and some cycling clothes. I wasn't the one helping him directly, but I was around and had a couple brief words with him. Incredibly nice, friendly, and truly funny individual - not only on stage or screen but just in real life. He was making jokes and doing voices at the cash wrap and it was a great experience....so glad I was working that day.

It's so sad that depression could take someone like him from us, but it just goes to show that it's a problem that can effect absolutely anyone regardless of their social status, income, job, and even outward appearance to the world in public.

Very sad news indeed, watching his films always gave me this feeling of he's like a kind, loving father to all the audience.

RIP Robin, and may all the people with depression could get through it.

I think my favorite Robin Williams moment is when he gives the fat kid the gold sword and puts him in charge of the lost boys at the end of Hook. RW was the man... RIP

Such a tragic loss. I've been dealing with depression myself and know how confusing the world seems when your in that state. Robin Williams was very frank about his illness and in some way i hope his death will shed light on those who suffer from depression and that the taboo finally can be lifted on this mental disease.
WHO's statistics of depression shows that depression is one of the biggest and least understood health problem in the vestern world.

My condolances to Mr. Williams friends and family.

touché -

isn't it also typical of depression to self-medicate? (like bi-polar people do) aside from the obvious 70's drug standards, it would explain his addiction(s). i'm wondering if that rehab @ MN put him on some new drug - that had side effects....

i'm waiting for the news report @ 1pmEST from the coroner.
