Rock Solid Players

Who are some players you think of as being rock solid? For those that don't really know what i mean by that I will explain. Solid players, to me, are those that always execute well. They have a great fundamentals, sound understanding of the game, move well, and the main ingredient, play their "par" speed most of the time. There are a lot of players that when they catch a gear they play like god but on a off day they fall way off that speed. What got me thinking of this was seeing where Ralph Soquet had won the Gold Medal recently. He is to me the definition of a rock solid player. Just wondering who else the board thought of as "Rock Solid".

Rock solid?

I'm going to add Tony Crosby to that list.

He's always hungry to improve and he always plays his best. Tony's fundamentals are about as good as you'll ever see. Combine that with a double tough mental game and the will to win (no matter what it takes) and you have yourself a champ. Win or lose, Tony is always a tough competitor - and I know he hates to lose - but that pushes him to play his best. IMO, he is one of the best, and when I read the first post in this thread, he was the first player that I thought of.

Another guy that is rarely mentioned, is Jeff Carter. I know that he does not play as much as he used to, and that some people never had the pleasure to watch him in his prime, but Jeff's fundamentals, and his overall complete game was about as perfect as I have ever seen. Jeff Carter is probably the most complete, rock solid player that I have ever watched play the game.

For those that haven't seen Jeff play, check him out on Accu-stats - when it comes to mechanics - he's one of the guys that players SHOULD emulate.

Boy, you got that right. Jeff Carter is mechanicaly very sound.

Thanks Blackjack....SPF=randyg

Dennis Hatch comes to mind when I think of the newer players. That guy can play.

Those germans are like machines "Übermensch" when it comes to there solidity. If I was to model my game after anyone it would probably be thorsten, he's like a rock.

Ralf Souquet epitomizes rock solid play.

Buddy Hall
Allison Fisher
Neils Fiejien
Thorsten Hohmann

Another thing it seems like people who play great straight pool have that rock solid persona Schmidt /Harriman come to mind.

Elite players who play the same almost everytime

Mika
Orcullo
Neils
Souquet
Corteza

Everyone else that everytime I see them play I know what I am going to get

Bartrum
Moore
Robles
Allison
Karen
Mills

In no specific order.

The guy (to remain nameless for future action as no one knows him) I took to the pool room in Boaz is ROCK solid for the cash. He will win every game that he is supposed to play. If you ever see the guy again George please have him call me so I can put him in more action.

You know John Schmidt and gabe Owen play pretty solid. They usually do well in the tournys they play in.

Good list! Yea I don't necessarily mean elite players. Solid to me is a guy I feel like play a certain speed and he gets up there and plays that way over and over again. Bartrum is for sure solid

I was wondering when someone would mention SVB! I agree that Souquet is a fine example of "rock solid". Many could be added to that list. Some, even elite players, have ups and downs, but players like Hohmann, Souquet, Feijen, etc. seem to be more consistent overall. I attribute that to their ability to TRUST THEIR STROKE! Chalk that up to lots of attention to their "process"!
