Rodney announces Bonus Ball's return on FB

I've met with people recently and the prices have actually went down in the last 2 years.....I have a certain type deal that creates a win/win scenario - I learned it from dealing with ESPN and Fox Sports. The ironic thing is Don Mackey is the one that introduced me to the concept when we did some joint TV Productions in Dallas.

You can buy a HD Camera now for a fraction of the cost of ones 15 years ago and they're much better. TV rates are very competitive right now as well.

Who said anything about using regional players? I would focus on the best players in the country like Earl, Rodney, Johnny, Hunter, Robb, Mike, Corey, etc.

Regional TV just means a region of the United States, it still have a few million viewers. The rates are just lower and we have ways to get them in bigger markets if the quality is proven to be acceptable.

The important thing, in my opinion, is to start getting the pocket billiard product out to the general public. Then we can conform the show and polish the production to increase ratings accordingly.

sounds good but hunter is not in that group, sorry

There's a place for Hunter, he's the best pool instructor in the United States.

There's a place for Hunter, he's the best pool instructor in the United States......we have to make a show, it's not going to be just two people playing pool...that's boring to me. Hunter is a good representative of the sport/game and learns VERY quickly. It's not all about who runs out the best, on a given day anyone can win a race to 9 or 11.

We need to create entertainment value and that's based on establishing characters and emotional attachments to the audience. Boxing, Poker and MMA do this very well, I especially like the build up to the Boxing matches. This year SKY SPORTS is going to do a documentary {on Earl S.} an hour before the Mosconi Cup....that's REALLY SMART. imho

The WPBA said that they paid for ESPN to televise them....pay them and they will come.

That's all fine and dandy but just who do you think pool needs to be introduced to that will find it interesting that has not seen it , pool not some hidden secret it lacks serious wow factor.

That's why IMHO pool in its present form of turny play is simply to boring to ever keep a large market entertained

Run out pool isn't going to attract a wide enough audience to pull enough of a number to keep networks interested.

When you get pool back on TV, you better find a way to make it interesting to the casual viewer, one that doesn't necessarily understand how difficult it really is to always leave yourself an easy shot.

Whatever pool product eventually gets put on TV, AZB will hate it. That much is a given. :p:grin-square::eek:;)

they will be enticed by THE GAME....but not until the this development phase has.....

You're right of course, up until now pool has lacked that "wow factor".

We intend on changing this scenario because at the end of the day it's not about the game, it's about the characters in the show....it's about entertainment. I seriously doubt if the game being played will end up being more than 20% of the show.....until it catches on.

The general public, from my experience, likes the Underbelly of Pool - the gambling, violence, bar scenes, sex situations, etc all blended into a "Soprano's/Breaking Bad" type cocktail....shaken, not stirred ;) Then, once the interest is developed and the emotional attachment is secure.....they will be enticed by THE GAME....but not until this development phase has been consummated. No, Rodney did not do that. He was sincere in his post.

Roger

So does anybody know what the hell Rodney was talking about? Was he being facetious?

Well Roger Long said he was being very serious in his post. Roger must have spoken/corresponded with Rodney about it obviously.

Based on the alleged new format which im not yet buying. If the players have go out to Vegas to get their alleged checks, they are outta their minds if they go. Organize, cash all past due checks before traveling.

A taped season will get fewer viewers than their last bright idea.

PS-Nothing going on but the rent.

Nostroke, I apologize for my past criticisms of your skepticism in this matter. I think I'm going to have to finally agree with you. The time for trust has passed.

Roger

Yeah no problem- I'm sorry for my rough response to you as well. Im a little sensitive and sometimes will overreact striking quick, hard and low. The good part-It's one and done 90% of the time. We will start over.

This is the email that Rodney got on Sept. 5th from Larry Chiborak:

Hello WPBL Players and Staff,
I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.
We have an exciting announcement to make! The World Professional Billiard League’s season will resume soon. We are still working out the details, and anticipate finalizing all elements of the league by next week. You will be receiving updates as soon as additional information becomes available.
I sincerely want to thank everyone involved for their patience during this time! I look forward to seeing all of you return to action in Las Vegas at the WPBL Arena.
Best Regards,
Larry Chiborak

So no, he was not being facetious or classless, he was acting on the info that he had.

I think we'll know when Bonus Ball is back by the thread Cleary will start triumphantly announcing the arrival of his Bonus Ball shirt.

That's pretty non specific information to act on. Wouldn't get me stirring given the history.
