Rodney Morris' Tainted Past

Rodney seems like a great guy and I'm proud to have him represent the USA in the Mosconi Cup. The drug laws are a joke in this country anyway compared to what other people (Enron, etc...) have done. Locking up people for selling booze and cigarettes seems ridiculous to most folks but they kill a hell of a lot more people than anything illegal. Does wonders for the income of the Mexican Mafia and cavedwellers in Afghanistan, though.

Rodney is one of the best people to help billiards get more popular because of his enthusiasm and personality. Other than Keith McCready, Earl, and maybe Alex Pagaluyan, who else captures your attention more than Rodney when he's playing? If you could steal a pool players' stroke, I'd go away forever because I'd KILL to have Rodneys' natural talent.

Thanks for your post RudeDog.

I totally agree, Rodney is great for pool. He is not one of these stoic types, he has character and plays with some flavor. I respect and appreciate that.

... I received 90 months ...
Seems like a loooong time for the nature of the infraction, but like you say we don't know the details.
The important thing, whether you got an unjust sentence or not, you stepped up like a man, accepted the past, and are now moving on.

... where as for me, I am stuck here in Arizona for 4 more years without permission to leave the state. So, there you have it, end of story.
The upside is there could be much worse places to be stuck. Enjoy the sun, you should have a nice tan after 4 years. :D

Obviously the involved don't mind sharing, so let them! When someone who is known commits a crime, people like to hear about it. People don't "leave things alone' when the accused is well known. I agree with Bazooka Joe...why should they delete a message that simply asking a question??

What is this thing about Rodney being a NIT (knit)???? Do you know something we dont know?? Rodney is one of the few guys I know who will bet it up with Busta in 9 ball as Rodney did in Vegas. Do you know any other top pro who will?? Only the special do. Guys like Rodney and Rude Dog who are trying to right a mistake only deserve support.

IMO, Rodney is one of the Nicest, respectable Players today. We live and learn and I wish Rodney the best of luck..

WHo posted this crap? Let a dead dog lay.

Thank you to everyone who have nothing but nice things to say. We all make mistakes that we regret, but only some of us pay for it with our freedom like Rodney and I have. Whoever it was that said Rodney is a (nit), (knit), or whatever it was that you were trying to say, you're dead wrong. Get your facts straight before opening your mouth. Also, to answer the question that I am assuming was refering to how I matched up with Rodney, I didn't. If I ever did play Rodney, I would need at least the 7 and the break, and I'm not sure that would be enough. I'm way out of his league for the money. Tournaments are different though, I have beaten some good players in the past, a very long time ago though. Anyway, IMO, this post wasn't about bashing Rodney, it was only a question. Normally I wouldn't have gotten involved in something like this, but rather than seeing only speculation about what happened and rumors flying around, (child molester, rapist), I had to set it straight. Rodney is a stand up guy and just happens to be a great player.

What has this got to do with pool?

As far as I am concerned, RM is a great player and conducts himself as a pro everytime I have seen him play. Give the guy a break.
This kind of trashing has no place on this board and the HousePro should delete it.

Gabber  :(

I, go along with gabber.
Some folks just show no class when it comes to others.

Exactly the man shared wut happened better than letting everyone assume what it is. All he did was ask a question no harm in that. If we were to delete every post that someone doesn't like there's probably be 2/3 threads in here. I guesse our country isn't free at all when we can't even ask or say things that we want. Although there is a boarder line to that the man wasn't even close to crossing that line. Just a harmless question. Everyone has done something that they're not proud of i know i have. But if someone was to answer the question which someone did to get facts straight instead of just people assuming things then whats wrong with that? The only thing that needs to be deleted here is the trash talkin....but to me the thread is just fine. The question was answered now lets move on.

Rodney Morris is an asset to the pool world. He made a mistake and paid the price. Not only is he one of the best players around he seems to enjoy interacting with the fans and spectators.

I love watching Rodney Morris play, he has a great attitude and he is an outstanding player. I watched him play the Ring Game at the DCC and it seemed whether he was at $10,000 or $200 and about to get eliminated, he always had that great big smile on his face. The fact that it was a drug conviction only makes me like him more. Everyone is a little wild when they are younger and im sure that most of us could have gone away for a long time do to handling/selling drugs. The funny thing is in Canada you guys most likely would have recieved 6 months probation and a stern frown from the judge. Its rediculous (sp?) that rapists, child molesters, and even in some cases murderers get smaller sentences that the guy that got busted with a bag of weed. An exaggeration in most cases but there are rare cases that its true. But from what I've seen of Rodney Morris, and Rude Dog actually, they seem like stand up guys. Good Luck to the Both of you in all your endeavors.

Earl Strickland's temper and general bad attitude has nothing to do with his game either. Thats where you are wrong. Earl,s antics on and around the table have everything to do with his game. Its what makes him who he is,ie. a talented ,highly strung, competative player who sometimes has trouble controling himself ON AND AROUND the table. I'm sure you'll find that to be mentioned quite often in forums like these. Yes,but it all has to do with the game. Not someones past criminal record.
Nothing but respect for Morris here.
Great player with a good attitude.
Sad? We base our opinions on people by their past actions.I never saw pool as a popularity contest. If he had been a rapist or child molestor, I'm sure I wouldn't cheer him on. No matter how good his game was.
I don't think it is a point to be brought up often, but if someone asks why he went to prison, There are any number of ways to find information. ie Google etc. it's better the FACTS are presented rather than cranking out the rumors. Thanks Dog.
I don't think TATE was trying to offend or embarass Morris. There are very few pro players willing to participate on forums such as this one. Did you ever wonder why?$0.02

Gabber,

Censorship is a double-edged sword. The lies are supressed, but so is the truth. Sometimes the truth needs to be told. In this case I think it does. The reason is because there have been many public references to Rodney's jail time. I figured someone probably knew the story and was willing to tell it.

This is totally about pool as a sport. Rodney Morris is a premier player. I already said a number of announcers referred to his past on television. I think even in the ESPN broadcast of this last Mosconi Cup they discussed his confinement.

Public sports figures often have to go through this. Personally, I agree with Rude Dog, who was also involved, that it's better to confront the issue like this than it is to have heresay and rumors whispered in pool rooms.

Rodney has made himself accountable, paid the price, and picked himself up. For that, I respect him.

Chris

How dare someone ask about Rodney's time in prison!!

Especially since nobody dares to ask about the cases of Kobe Bryant, Dennis Rodman, Pete Rose, and hundreds of other famous athletes of each sport.

Nobody has the right to know about these things, that's why they are all kept secret.

wasn't pete rose already been discussed in this forum? Kobe Bryant was a big deal everyone was talking about it if not on this forum then in other hundreds of forum.

The face with the eyes rolling is meant to show sarcasm. My post was sarcastic.

I'm sure Rodney would appreciate matters being cleared up because I've heard people speculate what they think he did. At any rate.. a NIT?! Haha.. If he's such a nit, name your game and I'll make sure the money is there. This guy has jokes.
