Rodney Morris' Tainted Past

I usually try to stay away from these kinds of threads, but I want to throw in my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

I've known Rodney since he was in diapers and seen him grow up to be not only a great pool player, but a champion. It sickens me to read some of these posts, especially about a guy who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, wouldn't roll over for a "Get Out of Jail Free" card, and paid dearly for it. End of story.

To see him get enough strength to elevate his game to the level he's at now makes me proud. He is one fierce competitor on a field of green, but off the table, you will never meet a nicer guy than Rodney Morris. And I'm proud to call him my friend.

That is right, who has a right to sit in judgement of others when they themselves are not without sin. The holier-than-thou attitudes are wrong and need to be changed.

Thanks Keith. And how long have you known me? Damn near 20 years, I'd say. Oh, but I'm not a champion, that's right. Well, I'm the one that took the rap for the whole damn thing, because I wouldn't give the feds who they really wanted and I'm the only one that knew where he was. But hey, what the hell, what's 7 and a half years of my life, plus another 5 out here in the real world? No problem Keith, just wanted to throw my last 2 cents in.

I may be wrong but I get the impression that Rude Dog thought Keith was saying he was sickened by his (Rude Dogs') post; it seems to me that Keith was just saying that he didn't like people bringing up Rodneys' history and that people should let sleeping dogs lie. I don't think he meant any disrespect to Rude Dog;he probably respects the fact that R.D. AND Rodney both didn't roll over.

John, no disrespect to you. I wasn't talking about you; I was posting on this thread about Rodney. I don't like to talk about nobody's dirty laundry, and I have known you for 20 years and I do respect you as my friend. Just because I haven't seen you in a while doesn't mean I am not your friend. Friends don't talk about other people's dirty laundry, especially this one.

Being a champion or not being a champion has nothing to do with this thread, and I do hope to see you in the future. It would be nice to be able to see you try to get back on the pool scene. There's a lot of pool out here where I'm at on the East Coast, and like I told you earlier, any time you can shake loose from where you're at, you've got my e-mail. The sooner the better! Sorry you took things the wrong way.

Your friend,
Keith

Keith,

I think the posts here showed a lot of respect for Rodney Morris as a person and a player. We can clearly see the affection a lot of players have for him. It was time to set the record straight. You and Rude Dog did.

'nuff said.

Keith, I didn't take your reply the wrong way, I just like to stir the pot a little I guess. This is just a bitter subject for me and always will be and when I saw that some people were thinking that maybe Rodney was some kind of weirdo for being in prison, I had to set it straight. Rodney is a stand up guy and he took his licks like a man. We both did. Anyway, just wanted you to know that everything is cool and I will see you sooner than later. Peace!

We all can do things we regret later on if life. I did time myself but I don't beat myself up over it. I say The Rocket has moved on with his life and so should everyone else. Let it go and look at the person he is now!

I used to love watching Rodney play, I liked his style.
I met him in 2003, cool guy in person.

Annoucers on TV refer to it. Posts allude to it. Since it's obviously no secret, can someone please give us some facts on what exactly happended. Why did Rodney Morris get sentenced to prison? Were other pool players involved?

Chris

Pool isn’t an easy life in the US. There’s no government funding for players like there is in Europe. It’s no secret back in the day (and i’m sure today too) lots of full time players would supplement their income selling drugs. It’s the perfect side hustle. The money is good and it gives you more time to shoot pool than working a 9-5 would.

I remember back in the early 2000’s Dennis Hatch went to jail too. Drug trafficking and again for armed robbery.

Bobby Pickle is another that got into his own legal 'pickle'. Pool's full of these stories. The game is in its best spot in decades so looking at only these cases really does no good. Reminds of the classic saying: "There's a reason your windshield is so big and the rear-view mirror so small".

"There's a reason your windshield is so big and the rear-view mirror so small"

Great quote

Met Rondey a few times and had some friends that were close with him while he was still in So Cal, not a single bad word to be said. Very nice guy

Since you can't spell nit, maybe you don't know what it is. Rodney matches up tough, but bets it up pretty good. He has been through No. Calif. a few times and played top players for serious money when I was still around the Bay Area. I always thought a nit was someone who would not bet. Maybe you have a different idea what a nit is. JRH
That’s not what a nit is

Announcers should NOT mention it.
Posts should NOT allude to it.
It's in the past. He did his time. Leave him be.

Rodney is one of the most open and available pros we ever had the pleasure of watching.

Besides some of the best people I ever met were in the worst of circumstances.

GO HERE for some info regarding your request.
So dude got caught up in illegal drug activity.....and got caught.

Just like 85% of the people who post here but didn't get caught. Literally, "But for the grace of God, go I".

Criminalizing drug offenses, when the majority of people partake, is hypocritical.
