Rodney Morris is scheduled to be at my local room here on July 1st. The cost is $100.00 to challenge him to a race to 7. I would pay that much for Strickland or Reyes but I don't think I'm willing to pay that much for anyone else. Maybe some of the old timers like Sigel, Hall, Varner, Rempe etc... I'll still go watch though.

anyone here know him personally? What kind of guy is he?
 
Definitely give it a go. I got to meet and Hang with Rodney for a few nights before the Desert Shootout. He stopped into Alexander's 5 or so days before the tourney. Great guy and made ridiculous shape shots look like nothing over and over again. You could learn a lot from this guy. He likes to joke around, and I've seen him help players, suggest other pattern routes on shots, etc.

All around nice guy!

If you know of any really good Philipino food places to check out, let him know!

I again ran into him at the BCA in Vegas and we chatted a few times. He seemed interested in hearing how I was doing in the BCA Tourneys, and each passing he'd say, "Did you get that last one?". It was pretty cool for me!

I don't know him personally, but have seen him play in person quite a few times. Consider the $$ the cost for the lesson.

His game is effortles. It seems like he's not even trying, and he doesn't miss. His pattern play is excellent too.

If it was me, I would jump at the chance.
 
No way. Why play him a race to 7 for $100. If you ever saw him out, I am certain he would be glad to play you even for $25 plus the table time. Most players would spend an entire evening hanging out and telling you loads of stories for the cost of dinner and a few rounds of drinks.

This is a different story if the proceeds are to benefit some type of charity, otherwise I'd ask for weight and we could match up for more than $100.

Seriously, would you pay $100 for Silva to punch you in the face or to challenge the hot-dog eating guy to a contest. I appreciate pool and all the players, but I have to be realistic when it comes to promotion.

BTW, I will play Efren even for $20/game one pocket. If the experience of 7-15 (if it goes hill-hill) games with Rodney Morris is worth it to you then more power to you.
 
If the $100 cost doesn't bother you then do it. Get a few pictures and
something signed. Rodney is more fun and more approachable than almost any other Pro. You will have a good time.
Think about many tournamnents most of us players enter knowing that we can not finish high yet we still pony up the $$$. Same deal here except it will be in a fun entertaining setting AND you will likely get some pointers.

Rodney is a very nice guys as others on here have mentioned. Great personality and a Top Pro.
 
I know him personally and he is a cool guy-he is out there busting his ass earning a living. If anyone can afford it do to support him.
 
So, do you win $100 if you beat him? If so, and the money isnt an issue in your life...go for it. If you win the first set...pull up, lol. Seriously though, the money going towards charity or something would make my decision for me. Otherwise, it seems like advertising to gamble for $100 sets. JMO.

Most people do not go to their jobs and offer to bet $100 to co-workers whos better at what they do....

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing your opinion, one which I happen to agree with. :)

Pro pool players in the States are not deemed as "sports professionals" in the eyes of some in the American pool culture, which can be ascertained from reading the opinions of various members on this forum from time to time, not all members, just some members. Everybody is, of course, entitled to their opinion.

This is why I think pool as a sport will flourish in Asian-Pacific Islander countries and elsewhere quite nicely because, in those countries, pro pool players are respected for their accomplishments and talent. Pool is a sport and pro pool players are athletes in those countries and not considered as "unemployed bums" and "hustlers" as they are by some -- not all -- in the American pool culture.

I was backing rodney its hard enough for the pro players to make a living would you pay 100 to play 7 holes w tiger ok some fans would love the challenge and just to say they played him hes a top pro.southpaw is in the middle of all arguments see the trend. im out peace

LOL...great observation and comment on your 17th post. I was just agreeing with some others. I wasnt aware that it was an argument until you challenged me based on my opinion. Thats the difference..the true trouble-makers call it arguments whereas most people know them as discussions...big difference.

I'll tell you what, you can come to Athens this weekend and play Southpaw all the $100 sets you want on my dime but you have to post first. So scrape all of your money together and lets go.
 
ive been reading on here for years was a member before forgot my info and re joined.although i havent responded to any I have been reading and following I love pool.

You know, I may have to come up to Verona come this August, just to give you a big hug. You do understand the difficulties of professional pool. With gas rising, it is going to be more difficuilt for us all to travel. Turning Stone, however, is a pretty cool tournament! By the way, Rodney's competing at Turning Stone this August. :)

A round with Tiger in the Buick Invitational pro-am next year just went for over $65,000. I bid $10,000 early in the listing and had it for about 20 minutes.
