I watch a lot of pool, Netflix, and U tube on my Roku #5. The remote that came with it...the batteries go dead about every week. Is this normal for the Roku? Should I just get a smart TV with Roku on it? Thank you. Johnnyt

mine hasnt gone dead in over 4 months, maybe try different brand of battery. or, is your roku compatible with smart phone app? my new roku premium is, i downloaded free app to phone and now have backup remote if ever needed

Not normal. I believe I have a ROKU 3. I would say that my batteries drain too quickly also, but it's months, not days. And, I'm 100% it's because I have cheap ass batteries (like Harbor Freight).

In case you didn't know, they have a Ustream channel called Nowhere Man. You can get the code to add to ROKU for it here: http://hiddenchannel.com/

Freddie <~~~ love watching pool on ROKU

Thank you all. I will try new remote. I have always bought a major brand of batteries. Johnnyt

Is maybe one of the keys sticking and constantly activated? Spill some sweet tea on it? :p

If you have a smartphone, the Roku app mimics the remote and doesn't have to point at the Roku physically. Just has to be on the same network.

no smart phone...but ty away. Johnnyt

I think you got a bum remote. The batteries in mine are over a year old, going strong. I use the thing every day.

Probably defective. Mine last a long time. If you use the headphone jack a lot it could be an issue.

By the way guys, thanks for the Roku app tip. That is interesting news.

Thank you all for the help. I went to Best Buy that said on their web site they had new Roku remotes. Got there and they had none. Instead of going to another store, my wife just bought the new Roku model, a digital recorder, and some good earphones for me. I faught her tooth and nail not to buy them. Johnnyt

Are you listening to headphones plugged into the remote? This will definitely eat batteries quickly.

A great feature of the app that is easily overlooked is its ability to play any video files you have on your phone on your tv. My physical remote (for a Roku 3) does not have that feature.

You need to chalk your Roku daily. :boring2:

yep

My first Roku remote was always going on the blink; it finally just stopped working.....I sent it back and they sent me a new one.....it worked OK a couple times, then stopped...I replaced batteries and that did the trick...I take one battery out every time I stop using it now....
