I almost never start threads, but I thought I'd share this with the group (I sound like I'm at an AA meeting).

I PMed Ron Vitello a few days ago asking if he'd help me with a few techniques I'm working on relating to body position. By the way, I've never met him or spoke to him before in my life.

Before you know it Ron emails me back, sets up a phone meeting with me and then makes a special trip to his pool room in NYC just for our call so he can be in front of a table. He works me through a few exercises and won't let me hang up until I completely understand what he's talking about. Never asks me for a dime (although what I learned he should definitely have asked for something).

I just received a follow-up e-mail from Ron, double-verifying if his knowledge helped me and if I had any questions.

I just thought I'd share this because this almost never happens... asking a stranger for help and receiving the red carpet treatment for free over the phone. Ron was super, super knowledgeable - so if anyone is knowledge-seeking, cold-call this guy like I did. I've heard Mika and Thorsten saw this guy for tough-to-get information as well. HIIIIIIGHLY recommended. Not sure if he wants me to post this but his email is:

That's the end of my unsolicited commercial for a person you don't meet everyday: someone who goes out of their way to help a fellow pool player on their own time and dime. I'll give Hal Houle a quick plug here because he's on that same, short-short list as well.

Like you pointed out, it's highly unusual for someone to offer their services for free especially to a stranger, kudos to him.
I have heard on numerous occasions how knowledgable Ron is when it comes to pool & billiards, especially his kicking and banking systems.
 
I had a good experience with Ron as well. I PM'd him last week about a system that he claimed to have and he responded quickly; inviting me to work with him over the phone while I was at a pool table. He was very informative and very knowledgeable and cheap too (free). He didn't ask for any payment, in the same manner Hal Houle offers his services. Whenever I visit the NY area, my first stop will to be visit with Ron.

I happen to know Ron personally. I studied with him for a period of 4 straight months. He happens to teach the best diamond and banking systems there is!! He also developed a swivel aiming technique that is simply innovative. I had spoken to Ron last week and he did mention he gave a lesson over the phone while at East Side Billards. So SpiderWeb did actually get an over the phone lesson. Ron is, to a certain degree, my mentor and definetly my friend. I highly recommend taking lessons with him. And he is very affordable!!
 
Ron V. is a gentleman. I spent about 2 hours talking to him in NY. He gave me a little lesson in his swivel system and some banks. By the way, Ron V. is the inventor of the jump rod, the best jumper ever.
 
Yes, Ron is the inventor of the 'jump rod'!! Both he and once partner (who has passed on) created the jump rod and it sold like hot cakes. Ron showed me a demonstration on how it works and the results were amazing. You have to be with Ron in person in order to really benefit from his hard earned knowledge. Caroline Pao, a professional pool player, said it best: 'Ron, always knew the answer to every pool related question I had to ask'. Tony Robles, a great pool player, and also a friend of Ron's, said: 'Ron is full of valuable information'.
