Router to trim tips

Does any one use a router to trim tips similar to the Tiger set up or some other configuration using a router and profiled cutter?
I have seen the Tiger video, but have noticed that their system shown is no longer available for purchase.
Those that have one or use one, how long does the cuter last?
Is there any negatives to such a system when all is working properly.
I am happy to get PM replies or on the forum.
Thanks for any info .

I have used a router to trim a tip once, but not shape it. The router was already set up. I had a ferrule installed on a shaft that was not turned down yet. I decided to install the tip and then take both the ferrule and tip down at the same time with the router.

Overkill it or not, it worked well. I suspect a good carbide endmill used solely to trim tips would last for a career. Whether the time to set up the router is worth going through fewer utility blades/other cutters is a judgement call I guess.

Personally, I don't think I would use a router to shape a tip.

Actually we use a router and end mill to cut tips and ferrules to diameter every day.

I set it up several years ago basically to make it quicker and easier, but soon found out it was an excellent way to do it.

It's an old porter cable router that we made a special mount for. It's on a small metal lathe we use for all our ferrule tenon and ferrule and tip work.

The amazing thing is that we can cut to finish size in one smooth easy pass, and there is virtually no stress or heat build up.

Since moving to this setup, we have much fewer mistakes or tips that just seem to fall apart. It's the lack of heat build up that is so much easier on the tips. Particularly the layered tips.

We don't use it to crown the tips simply because I just haven't gotten around to automating it yet. But when we do, it will all get done at once, and they will all be exactly the same. Every time.

Even if I was just doing repairs and building few cues in my garage, I would still cut my tips and ferrules this way.

If you think I like it for tips and ferrules, that doesn't hold a candle to how much I like it for cutting tenons.

4-flute end mill trims tip and ferrules fast.
It sure turns down tenons fast and clean too.
I have it on my Kress router and Makita grinder .

Keep the layered tips wet before trimming.

I used the pcd (polycrystalline diamond) 8 wing cutter on a tip and it worked real well for the OD. So just thought I would ask.
I added the video link to the Tiger video at the top.

Joey, what coating or grade of em are you using there?

Looks like I will make a tipping station now and leave a trim router set up.
If I had a cnc, then I could do the profile as well.lol
Thanks for the info and sharing.
