Rule update

Can I get a clarification? If someone posts in the "ask a cuemaker" section and ask 'how much for a new shaft for my Yabo cue?', we should not post a price for the service, but rather use PMs?

I would love to expect that everyone will abide, however we know there are going to be those that ignore or plead ignorance.

If someone doesn't follow the instruction to make it private and asks on the board, I would appreciate the effort of the person asked to respond in private.

That adds a different wrinkle to what I was asking. Is the rule addressing the asking of a question or the answer of that question?

I feel that people would get a better, broader response from different cue makers by posting their question as opposed to PMing a cue maker or two.

Is there a specific instance that promted the rule?

.........and if it is a general question, there should not be specific dollar amounts mentioned.

If it is an offer to sell or buy, it should be either private or in the appropriate sales area.

If you are asked a question in public that should have been private, please respond in private.

I am not addressing a specific occurance, but am attempting to streamline things.
We have an appropriate area for sales and "ask the cuemaker" is not the correct one.

Mr. Wilson is boss. But I would like to see us still be allowed to ask what ever we want, but all responses be sent in private concerning prices, sources and such. Moving those types of questions to Wanted and Forsale won't get addressed correctly there as most cumakers only post on this and the machinery forum.

We are talking strictly about ask the cuemaker.

Most cuemakers are not here barking sales pitches like a carney....but they do get asked regularly for prices. Under these circumstances, the replies ought to be private.

There lots of cue making parts and pieces that I would much rather see in the 'ask the cuemaker' section as opposed to getting mixed into the 'wanted/sale' section. Most cue makers don't look there and, even if they did, people bump so much and so aften that it gets lost in the shuffle. I do like the idea of a wanted/for sale in the cues section as long as no one is selling completed cues.

What about using the cue machinery section for the various parts offered? Prices and such are OK in that section, right?

I don't like the way many people use the forum as their own personal calssified advertising section. If you're selling something, post it in the for sale section.

I'm not sure what issue posting a price for an item or service when asked is raising, but at that point PMs or emails are definitely warranted.

how about a wanted/for sale section for cuemakers then???

I second the motion..............
a sub section here would be nice for cuemaker specific items....
I've listed stuff in the Wanted/forsale section before and had to bump it 4 times in one day just to keep it on the first page. Stuff in that section gets swallowed up fast in the waist deep pool of everything else.

I'm not trying to be a pain but I think cue makers are just better than the common folk and should be treated that way. I'd like to see our own wanted/for sale section.

We have our own section........how hard could it be to add a sub section?
People are just going to link here from the want/forsale section anyway so it doesn't get lost in the sea of cues being offered.

I also don't care to see the Ask the Cuemaker forum turned into a classified ad section. For that matter, I don't like seeing cuemakers use the Cue Gallery for the same purpose and think if they are hawking a cue or a piece of wood to make a cue then they should post in the For Sale section. The same should apply to dealers that mysteriously find a beautiful cue to show in the Gallery, only to find out that the cue is not sold but sitting in someones website. Makes me wonder what kind of commission they are getting for posting and sending a buy that way.
As for someone asking a question that demands a numerical answer I can see no problem in giving a private response. There is no need for open bidding wars between cuemakers trying to get someones business with the lowest price.
I don't know why cuemakers trying to sell something, other than complete cues, should not do in in the Machinery section, as Chris stated, there and the Ask the Cuemaker sections are sometimes the only forums cuemakers look at.

If you have something to sell post it up and put a price on it. Otherwise don't post a bunch of BS in the forsale section about all the research and time you've put into building some new fangled machine that's going to build cues for you all the while you have a cup of tea with the neighbors wife.

You make an excellent observation about people posting in the gallery with only one thing in mind, a sale. Maybe cue makers should not be allowed to post their soon to be finished cues there, only owners who have bought a cue and want to show it to everyone. I believe that was the intent of the Gallery, not a pre-sale ad fest for cue makers.

Bob...you make a good point.........I just looked and never realized that the machinery section is for buying and selling also. It wouldn't be that hard to change the sub heading and include ALL things building cues related. Machinery...cue parts...wood stock...etc....
Ask the Cuemaker should be just asking....
