Ruling please

I pushed out a lot...more than a lot of younger posters on AZ....
...I played a lot in the old ‘roll out’ days.

I have never seen a situation where it would benefit a player to call push while hitting
the ball on....you’re just giving your opponent an extra decision to make....
...which is not to your advantage.

..it’s the same thing in call-shot eight-ball...
...why would anybody call ‘safe’ and make their ball?

If someone could post a pic showing these two layouts where it would be a good move...
...I’d like to see it.

pt....willing to learn something

Its a useful tactic when you have many balls remaining on the table and a ball blocking the path to a pocket of 1 or several balls. If you can clear a path for a ball or 2 and play a good safe at the same time, go for it. This is not unusual playing 8 ball on barboxes, especially when so many like to break second ball and a lot of balls tend to be on one side of the table.

I had a 9 hanging 1 millimeter from a corner and no shot on the 1.I called a push and shot the 9 in and the other bar tourney player went nuts like I took a dump on the table.

What about when your opponent is on the 8 and it is tied with your ball, and you have another ball hanging in a pocket? Wouldn't it make sense then, to shoot the hanger and call safe?

You might be onto to something here....how about a pic?

I called my buddy last night who couldn’t remember his shot that he called safe on...
...and shot it in.
BB got me thinking....so, one of your two balls left is at one end rail with the 8-ball in front..
...your other ball is hanging...any hit makes it...so you call safe and make it...
...naturally, if I’m close enough, I’ll try to get the corner hook also...’cause I’m a mean dude.
...so there’s probably a lot of scenarios like that at 8-ball....

..but now I want to see the 9-ball situation where you push and make the legal ball...
...a situation that makes sense

I'm thinking there is a real good chance that if you went that way you might not like you next shot. If you can legally hit the hanger without sinking it you might be better off. JMO

The trouble is when the ball is hanging....and froze on the jaw.
...you still have to get a rail.
...and your other ball is froze to the 8....with no pocket to shoot it into.

Right, that would be a problem, without seeing the table layout it's hard to tell what would be the best option. Maybe a safe off your ball tied up with the 8 maybe possible, if so the hanger might be a very useful ball.

I don’t want to shoot the hanger...but I’m hooked on the other ball...
..and it doesn’t go in any pocket because the 8 is blocking it.
....and shooting a hanger to try and get a break-out is very tough.

I don't follow...

I dropped my ball and called safe, now, opponent must shoot the 8, tied up with my last ball.

My situation improved, 2 shots in a row.

I am unable to come up with a rotation example, as well.

Said before: calling a push and sinking the 1 would not give you any additional options, but would give options to opponent...thereby improving his position and worsening yours.

What do you play in this situation? You made a ball on the break and this is your first shot. The 2 ball is in the middle of the head cushion. The cue ball barely fits in to make the 1 ball legally.

I think the right shot is to call a push out and shoot in the 1.

If I can catch ball first, I’m playing a hook...3 foul territory here.
If I can only catch rail first, I think I can get up table.

And what happens when the random guy watching the shot says, "Foul, you hit the 7 first, ball in hand"?

I always ask for an outside call in these positions...
...the big action at the Rack....everybody was a ref when requested...
...that’s why the big action worked there...
...the saying was “We don’t argue around here.”...the call was accepted.

So if that did happen, wouldn't it have been better to call the push out and pocket the 1?

Not for me....if I was uncertain about a good hit on the one-ball...I would push...
...by cutting the seven into the three and running up table..low center.

I’m liking this thread....it’s waking up my brain cells....
....all four of them...:o
