Sacrificing space for a pool table?

A few months back, I got an insane deal on a pool table at an estate sale. I put the table in my family's storage unit, in hopes of installing it in my home when I got a place.

I am gearing up to move into a condo at the beginning of 2013. All the areas that are in my price range don't leave much room for a pool table, but I am determined to make it work! I am not married, so I don't have a family to worry about as far as space goes. I am even considering not having a traditional living room, and just putting the pool table there. Anyone else have this problem, or am I just crazy for wanting to make this work? (probably the latter)

The first thing you see when you walk in my house is my table in the front living room. We have another smaller living room in the back that we hang out in.

Not crazy IF you actually make work.

I'd only say crazy if you end up stuffing it on a closet and then try to play on it.

;)

I'd sacrifice a living space for a table.....if I was single. :)

One alternative is to find a condo with a garage big enough to accommodate the table. With a two car garage it is very possible to have both the pool table and room for one car by placing the table off center. All you need is 5' or so from one side wall and sufficient room at the two ends. The side nearest the car is not an issue; you simply back the car out when you want to play.

I just moved to a larger house. When my wife was house shopping she had one order from me....room for a table.

There is a front livingroom big enough for a 9 foot table. There are two other living rooms...both larger....but the table is going in the front room. I would personally like it in the largest room....but I have a wife and kids. Besides, there is plenty of room in the smaller livingroom. I'll be looking for a table after the holidays.

I have a family though....you are single....put the table wherever you want!!!!!

My fiance' and I purchased this house last year. One stipulation was that no questions asked there needs to be room for a bar box. We loved the house ( actually the house @ the price I should say) but there was a pesky wall in the basement. Problem solved with a hammer and some work finishing up the unfinished room behind the wall once torn down. Now we both love it and she is actually starting to play a lot as well, a double bonus there.

Me and my girlfriend are looking for a new place and all I ask is a room big enough for a 9 footer and a TV.

If I was single it would be a different story. I'd sleep on it if needed!

Yeah a 9' Diamond ProAM is a must for the next house but for now the barbox will have to work. Finding a house with a 16x20 room for me to have all my own has been tough :)

I started with an 8 foot table in my condo because I couldn't fit a 9 foot table.

Then, when I found a deal on a Gold Crown II for $500 bucks I couldn't pass it up.

So, I removed my gas fireplace to make room. Now the fireplace is stuck in storage and I will have to reinstall it when I sell..... :) Well worth it.

My whole condo is taken up by the table though.

My Gold Crown fits in the basement but I want it in the living room, wife says no though, I even offered to cover it up for the holidays so we could use it as a dining room table. I will need to install an addition to get my table on main floor, wife ok with that.

Gotta do what you gotta do!

Tight room but keeps me in stroke, the table is set up in the living room. I live in a condo with a separate family room dedicated for home entertainment. Best of luck!

We just moved into a 100 plus year old semi attached home. My wife was in love with the house.. 6 bedrooms...3 bath and an enormous kitchen BUT the rule was no full room for at least a bar box no way was I moving in. Thats the one thing I've wanted for more then 20 years. I measured every room and found one...the dining room was enormous so now instead of having a sitting room that's become the living room ...the next room became the dining room and the dining room has my pool table. I've been playing for 25 years so she has no problem with it. We had some big family parties recently and everyone was around the table drinking and playing and having a great time and that made her love it even more :) I still walk by it and can't believe I FINALY have a pool room and am not in a crappy basement using a shorty cue lol

Youre not crazy for wanting to make this work. If you're a poolplayer, then that's what you do.

You're crazy most likely for all sorts of other reasons, so you're not absolved.

I like all these crazy people. I've put pool tables everywhere! On a shared patio at one apartment building (took a little heat on that one until I left the balls out for everyone to play) and in my living room in a couple of houses, including where I live now. The craziest one for me was when I rented a double garage a few miles from where I lived and made the space into a nice poolroom. The neighbors though I was weird but I didn't care. Mike Shamos even wrote about it in his book.

Ming and I used to drive over there maybe three times a week and go at it, playing Races to Nine until we both got worn out (and in stroke). We used to get in some heated battles in there playing for nothing. She would tell me to shut up and play. She really wanted to beat me and that just made me play harder. Ming got pretty good and made it into the top sixteen when the WPBA tour was tough. I won a little money playing a few rich guys $50 and $100 One Pocket. I loved it when they hustled me to play, thinking I never got to hit a ball, since they never saw me in the poolroom. I was in dead punch and they didn't know it! Hey, that's pool.
