The last 24 hours have been a kick in the gut. early this mourning around 1 am my shaft split at the joint. Then I just got home from going to the bar I pull in the driveway and 5 friends that are regulars are all pulling out all in the 30 secs it takes to pull in park and get out.

I was joking around thinking boy I must be the kiss of death when they all drove out. Well needless to say I walk in with my food since Sunday kitchen is closed well the owner was there and sniped at me no outside food . I was a bit pissed at that point but shut my mouth as he was saying there a nacho bar I did not know this on the way there.


Well I walk out eat in the car for 20 min head back in go to rack and the table was not open. It is Sunday free table day when a lot of us come in almost everyone and point and times in the day for a few hours.

So I ask are the table not open today thinking it was from Superbowl that maybe there closed today. Nope he tells me table cost 10$ an hour now there been a lot of freeloaders. To this I call bull crap there 1 homeless buddy of mine that comes in and the there is a true blue freeloader.

Everyone else buy drinks at 3-4 $ per bear and 5-7 $ per shot I don't drink so I buy pop at least 3-4 every Sunday at 1.75$ per can.
I have no clue what he has in his head but this is a basic slap to the face and spit in the eye to all the regulars.

BTW the bar has 5 diamond 7 ft tables set up where 2 people cant be taking there shot's on the same side at the same time. 2 of them are on vary un level flooring in the back.

If we take the high way in 30 min for 10$ for 2 an hour and bring your own drink I can go to Chris billiards in Chicago to Play on 9 ft tables.
 
We used to have a bar not far from where I live that had 2 open tables on Sunday afternoon.

They eventually shut it down as people would come in a claim a table and not accept any challenges.

I mean, they actually thought that the table was theirs for the rest of the day.

The one group of pool players that were the worst for this and the biggest complainers after they shut it down were water and pop drinkers.

Funny that.
 
My spot I just got home from is $6 from 10am to 6pm on Sundays. I don't drink while I'm playing, have a few sodas and leave after about 8 hours of shooting pool. My tab is usually about $13.00 (small pitchers of soda being $3.50 each) but I do tip $7-$10 each time I go to stay in good standing with the bar maid. She knows what I table I like, when its crowded during the week she'll make sure there's an empty between me and the drunks.

Maybe the Sunday crowd should've chipped in a little more? Just saying it wouldn't have hurt and the bar owner wouldn't be losing business and hiking prices.

Paying 7$ every sunday to be its all the spare cash I have all of it not some but all of it. 7$ to some is pocket change to others it is all they have.

As for you hog I am not the only one complaint there about 10 other people that I know have complaints as well. We never hog the table btw.

That was never a issue here in fact it's making the cash where a new table is going in and the bar is being renovated and only assholes don't tip.

So every Sunday you guys all make it a point to make sure you get in there and play when the tables are free. Wouldn't wanna miss that free time.

The owner likely does that to promote new business or if you just happen to be there or something. I doubt he expects all the regulars to show up every sunday with their lunch in hand ready to hang out for the free time.

Also and no offense here but if 7.00 is all you have for free pool day I can't imagine that you're contributing much if anything on the other days.
 
I wasn't suggesting that you and your friends hog the table bud. I was relating my story.

If you think that bar owners don't keep track on who spends money and who doesn't, then think again.

Over a period of time, he was keeping track on how his free Sun was working out.

So his decision to shut it down may have been based on the fact that the only time he sees familiar faces is on Sun.

When you pulled in, you did notice that all of your friends were leaving.
If you and your friends decided to stay and support his bar, in time he may have bent the rules for you but you didn't give him a chance to do it.

He probably viewed the bunch of you as rats deserting a sinking ship.
 
I know the Fire Truck starts with an F and ends with a K but that sentence is beyond me.

Maybe Working will tell us what it means.

I liked the article you wrote on this subject, Tank. You hit the nail on the head. Bars and pool rooms are in business to make money; not to give away a lot of freebies just to get people in the door. Sooner or later, the "regulars" in all locales will have to learn that they are not entitled to anything special. The bars and pool rooms just can't afford their kind of business, anymore.

And also, the part of bringing your own lunch to the bar.

So now, his waitresses have to clean your table and dispose of the garbage that you brought with you. Not saying you are but many are messy eaters and think nothing of brushing crumbs off the table onto the floor. It would be ok if you're the one vacuuming later.

7 dollars is a hard ship for you but take out food isn't?

I believe that he felt that all of you were nothing but Sunday Free Loaders.
The slap in the face was to him and not any of you.
In order to call yourself a Regular, you have to show up for more days than the Sunday Freebies.

I like these threads anyway. It shows the true nature of people.

I go to a local bar sometimes. Not enough to be called a regular but they know me.
I've put 3 sets of quarters into the table before realizing the table was opened up.
If I'm playing with quarters I will play, buy my soda, and that's about it.

If I'm playing for "free" I will pay for my soda and leave a nice tip.

I would NEVER take food into a place that sells food. That's just crass.
If I were the owner and saw someone do that, I'd kick them out for a month MINIMUM
 
Hey "Working", why don't you take up playing Hop Scotch? Just a piece of chalk on the sidewalk, you can bring your lunch, play for free, and make your own rules. Maybe the 3rd graders will show you how to write a sentence.

I read what the OP had to say. But i doubt the OP cared to put himself in the owners shoes. Its a two way street. Shame on you for complaining. Not that i care but shafts just dont NORMALLY break on their own. So was it abuse? On top of that, the money you have undoubtedly saved by not paying table time should have been more than enough to replace your shaft several times.

Now lets consider the owner having to pay for regular maintenance to the table. Chalk among other things required. So exactly why do you think are you are "entitled" enough to complain about this? If I were the owner i would have told you and your friends to take a hike, dont need your business (lack of a better term since you are abusing what hes offering at NO CHARGE) for a few measly pops....

I'd say NEVER bite the hand that feeds you, but you brought your own lunch also. LOL. Really man? Poor show all around. I would have no problem believing your attitude towards this would have been an additional factor in the owners decision.

Stop beating the guy up...he's been up front about living on the cheap?

At one time or another...we have all been digging for change trying to survive...and still try to have a good time once in awhile?

If you haven't...then you were born with a silver spoon and haven't fully experienced life.

Some of my fondest memories and great sex I've had were when me and ole lady didn't have any money. Gott'a occupy yourself with something? I still talk about synching up the belt.

Especially with Obama in charge...we should all be concerned with wanton waste.
