:frown: I received news today that my long time friend and mentor, Jack White is in hospice care at the VA Hospital in Loma Linda, CA. I knew Jack had been ill for awhile, but I had no idea that it was this bad. I have no other information, although I'm trying to find out more. Perhaps an address for people to send cards to...sadly Jack is computer illiterate.

Sad to hear that. I remember him coming to Texas Tech and putting on a show and a tourney in the late 80's and early 90's.

Sorry to hear that. Jack's annual visit to the Rec Center (back when I was learning which end to chalk) was a treat for all the regulars and especially for the one who got to play him. He always gave a great show and was excellent at interacting with the audience.

Sorry to hear that too. On my 16th Birthday Jack White did an exhibition at the local college rec center and it was one of the coolest things I've seen.

Jack White

This is very sad news. I played him 3 times while in the Air Force and just loved his exhibitions. He was one of a few that could float the cue ball with his amazing stroke. He will be missed.

any pictures of this man? how old is he? remember hearing about him in 70 s $ 80s. did not ever work out to see him in person. hope he gets well.

Here are a few photo's;

rc...It wasn't on my birthday, but Jack's first exhibition at my college in CO, in Oct. 1971, was what first gave me the pool bug...and I got it BAD! LOL To my delight, Jack performed an exhibition at Montana State 30 years later, on my son's 10th birthday (Jack is his godfather, and it was a real treat for both of us). :grin:

Scott, do you know if he's taking visitors?

I have to go to the VA hospital in Loma Linda today at lunch to take care of some paperwork and I'll stop in and wish him well if he's taking visitors???

Jaden...I don't know. His wife said he's on meds and sleeps a lot, but it couldn't hurt to stop in and ask. If you are able to see him, please give him my best wishes. Tell him there are thousands of well-wishers here on AzB that remember his shows over the years. I won't be out there for another two weeks, but I hope to be able to visit with him too, at that time.

Hope he does better. Met Jack years ago at an exhibition at our college.

Jack is a nice guy. I won a free t shirt from him for making some weird shot (got lucky) that he just fired in. He looked at me, and said, OK, no more shots for you :) I could not have made that shot again if you gave me a million dollars !!!

I still have the shirt. It has pics of pool balls on the back. And it says " It's Great to be Great" I'm sure it says Jack White somewhere.. never wore it, but still in my closet !! I think I will pull it out. All the kids liked him.....

He than ran an 8b tournament and gave everyone "nicknames".... mine won't be mentioned here ;)

Saw him perform at the University of North Dakota to a packed house in 1969. I remember thinking that I wanted to be that good and do those things. It's probably his fault that pool became a huge part of my life.
