snip . . . 1 M. hard, 1 hard,1 extra hard,1 super hard, 1single layer Hard. 1single layer extra hard.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that is a confusing hardness scale. A month from now I won't remember which is harder, extra hard, or super hard.

Hi Juan
I wish you the best of luck, I for one will not be buying any for this reason, I have completely run out of patience buying especially tips. My friendly advice to you is, Find the guys who work tournaments and give them samples. On this forum you have, D&D cue repair, Rocket cues and Steve Lomax come to mind, they are great guys and work a lot of tournaments. They will also give fair and honest reviews of your products that can hopefully sky rocket your products or, and I hope not, advise against it.

How much is a box of 50 single layer hard tips, normally? Do they have mushrooming issues or chalk adherence issues? What type of leather are they made from? Thanks

Let me see if I can clarify a bit.

Juan makes two hardnesses of single layer tip: Hard and Extra Hard. The Hard tip is intended to be a PLAYING tip and the Extra Hard is intended for Jump/Break cues.

Juan makes four harnesses of Layered tips: Medium Hard, Hard, Extra Hard (intended for Jump/Break Cues), and Super Hard (intended for Jump only Cues). All the layered tips are 11 layers except the Super Hard which is 9 layers.

According to his post in the Wanted/For Sale forum, he is offering this Sampler Pack for $30.00.

Hope this helps.

All single layer tips are made out of cow hide, hold chalk very well and do not have mushrooming issues. All of my tips are very low maintenance. Thanks, Juan

Mike, Steve Lomax, Joe Blackburn, Al Romero have my tips. I do think I make a special kind of tips. I hope some players give me a chance and play with my tips ... from a pool player to a pool player. Thanks..Juan Rios

May I suggest Juan to make hardness rating simpler?
Triangle hardness or Elk Master hardness.
Which one is like Triangle?
If they don't mushroom at least twice before settling, that's news to me.

They don't mushroom twice. The are very low maintnenance. With Hardness scale of 1 to 100: My hard cue tips are 95 and extra hard is 99.

I hope this helps.

I will honor this special offer thru the end of July. Please PM is interested and I will be happy to provide Sample of high quality, easily installed, low maintenance Mad Man cue tips. You won't be sorry!

If any of you are attending the APA Nationals in Las Vegas this month: Joe Blackburn will be selling and installing Mad Man Cue Tips and will give you HIS honest opinion about the quality and installability of these cue tips. Check him out.

One comment I would like to make about Juan is: He is not new to tip making. I met him many years ago in Vegas and reviewed his older tips in the 2001 first edition of my book. He was only making single layered tips at the time, but has been making layered tips for a while now. I know AZ members can come down pretty hard on new people getting into business. So I just wanted to let you know he is not new to this. Tips are like everything else in cues, not everyone will like any one tip that is out there, so Juan's tips should be worth a try at the price he offered the sample for if you are looking for something new.

Chris, I appreciate your kind words. Thank you.

If there are any other cue makers on this forum that have tried my line of cue tips, I would most appreciate their honest assessment of my tips ... and, post comments here for other cue makers to see. Thanks.

I think a sample pack is a great idea and a good way to save some money while trying different tips.
If you can do your own tips ... even better.

From the standpoint of a cue repair person it was sure a lot easier and cheaper to stock the 4 or 5 tips that were common 10 years ago.
Now days you can have a thousand dollars or more tied up just in your tip stock.

I like it when customers bring their rare and expensive tip for installation.

Willee, What can I do to get you to try some of my tips?

If he is anything like me he needs for a customer to ask for one. I carry about 50 types of tips. Normally I have what anyone asks for. If someone asks for something I don't carry then I try to get a small supply but that hasn't happened for some time and I have a supply of many tips that people haven't asked for in years. I don't make tips. My job is to put on a tip, it is your job to advertise and get people to want one of yours for me to put on, not mine.

Dick, Honest answer. Can't argue with your logic.

Now .... How do I find someone to walk into your shop and ....
