San Diego results

Hello Melissa

Undefeated on the first day...looks like you might move up another notch or two in the rankings the way you're playing right now. Nice shooting Dragon Lady. San Diego is a nice place to play in on any SUNDAY...

I spoke to Melissa today. She said she was not playing very well so far, but is happy to still be on the winners side.

She plays Romana Dokovic next.

Sorry!

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone who had to watch me play this weekend! I did NOT have a good tournament. :(

I really cannot say why I played so poorly...I have been trying to figure it out for 3 days and still don't have an answer. I was playing very well last weekend, but I just didn't carry that same focus through to this event.

It all started with my first match. I took some very aggressive shots instead of playing safeties (which is what happens sometimes when a player feels that they are playing well....a mental mistake!)....and it cost me games early in the match. So, from the start of the first match, I was playing "catch-up" the whole tournament. I never took the lead early in a match. I was always coming from behind....so I could never really get comfortable.

Anyhow, I apologize because I didn't put on a good show.:o I know I am capable of so much more....and there were people at the venue who were really pulling for me.....and I let myself and them down.

I promise to play better in Vegas. I can't promise to win, of course....but I know I can play better!!!

Big hugs and thanks to all who supported me in spite of my flawed performance this weekend! And of course, my love and congratulations to Sarah....who continues to kick butt and is now MY hero! I knew she wanted a chance to play Helena again...and she made the best of it. Sarah was faced with a super-difficult run-out table with the score hill-hill....and she came thru like a champion. If anyone has doubts as to Sarah's skills....well, if they had seen her run this table....there would be no doubts anymore!

Also, I want to give a quick congrats to Leslie Anne Rogers...who beat her first Top 16 player....Ewa Laurence. The score was a very convincing 9-0...and I have never seen Leslie Anne happier! Great Job!

All the best!

Melissa

Melissa,

I wouldn't beat yourself up too bad. It looks like the two players you lost to were steamrolling at the time and ended up finishing 4th and 7th.

Stuff happens. Get 'em next time.

Melissa,
Yes, you could have played better but Dokavick (sp) is no slouch and went on TV Sunday. You ran into a steamroller in Anita McMahon who went on to beat Jennifer Chen who was livid. You took your losses with class and maturity. You and Angel went further than the others from the West Coast.

The West Coasters invests alot of $$$ to follow their dreams and the WPBA. Some talented players have dropped out of the hunt and the Tour because of a lack of sponsers. Kudos and hang in there.

How does the wooden rack and alternating breaks affect your or the game's flow? It seems to break up being on a roll or is that what the alternating break supposed to do? The wooden rack seems to make it harder to make a ball on the break.

Good fortune.

Melissa,
No apologies necessary to the fans on this board (at least the ones with any sense). You were the one who put it on the line (and we all know what it feels like to fall a little short). Nine ball is a fickle game, and no one can win when the balls roll badly for them. We all are just experiencing tournament pool vicariously through your descriptions, and we appreciate your taking the time to fill us in, even after a tough defeat. Keep a good positive attitude, and good luck in Vegas.
