Yeah, lotta folks are from "somewhere" it's where they live that counts ;) Jay is in CA and you're where again San Jose Dick

For your information Freddy claimed to have "taught" Efren until he got called out on it a few times and then it changed to "Efren learned by playing me for a year in Chicago". By the way, they played very cheap.

Freddy even claimed credit for the flaws in Efren's game:D.

What are you attempting to point out? The way Freddie imparted his knowledge was through hands-on gameplay. This gameplay occurred over the period of a year and the bet was low.

Which word/s do you take issue with?

Once again, bad info RJ....Colorado-20 yrs, Texas-10 yrs, Phx, AZ-last 45 yrs, San Jose-only 5yrs. (65 yrs ago)...RA hung
that nickname on me, I never did like it.:(..'Til they met me, lots of people thought I was an illegal alien, from Mexico ! :embarrassed2:

PS..It did work great for playing 'under the radar' though !.....If the knocker's thought they were onto me,..I used to say..
"San Jose Ricardo"...."nah, not me, but I know him well..He's a short, left-handed Mexican, but a hell of a nice guy" :D

Well, in Chicago, anything west of the Mississippi is "WEST COAST"... no offense intended if you claim to be more of a "mountain coast" guy ;)

DICK gets it done in one hole

FREDDIE spanks at banks. He was FREDDIE the BANKER before he morphed into FREDDIE the BEARD and that's worth a couple of balls, eh??

DICK vs ARTIE on the 10 footer at BENSINGERS would have been sweatable

Yes, yes it would. Of course, Artie never lost at Bensingers. A neutral spot would make it fair.

Bensingers was a hole in the wall, and who knows what diseases the rats carried around the joint ;)

A neutral spot would give SJD a huge advantage if you put any stock in Grady's comment:

Grady said:
The only knocks I could say about Artie having been the best player in the world are: 1. Longevity, he went to Vegas and quit playing when he was young, not that that was a bad move. Maybe I should have done the same.
2. He didn't to my knowledge ever beat a top player in an extended match outside of Chicago.

No, I don't take much stock in what Grady says about it. Artie was NOT a road player. So, yeah, he didn't play outside of Chicago too much. But they came to play him...

So, just like SJD didn't make it to Chicago much (if ever) I'm not going to hold that against him either. But there are only a handful of folks that can say they ever beat him in a gambling match, a handful. Not many folks can say that.

And just like Dick deciding to work for a living, and played less pool, Artie quit pool to go to Vegas to make a LOT more money. Nothing wrong with that. Artie does NOT love pool, he played because he could make money from it. So, once he figured out how to "rob" Vegas, he left pool in the dust. Can't say that I blame him....

But, like anything, without ever playing nobody knows what the results would be. Heck, even SVB loses once in awhile ;)

Convince me of what exactly? Did I say Freddy was better than SJD in 1 hole. Nope. Did I say Freddy was more than a shortstop in 1p? Yep. Did I say Freddy would smoke SJD in banks? Yep. Did I say Freddy taught Efren 1P? Yep.

Not a untrue statement in the lot. But, thanks for playing.

Finally, I never really said that I "taught" Efren, figuratively. I have said, maybe 1000 times, that Efren LEARNED the game from me and Incardona. I never taught him shit! When you say, "I cant say for sure because...." That sounds like,(a.) I might be delusional about Efren learning the game from me, or, (b) that the confirmation of such depends on your final opinion.
That he learned from me (by playing me almost every day for a year) and Cardone are Efren's words, not mine, and he has spoken them often.

Now insofar as me being too dumb to recognize his superior shotmaking skills, the first guy Efren played in Chicago was Billy Incardona. He gave Billy the 7 and the break on an easy table! I had also observed him demolishing the field at Red's in Houston a few months before. So it wasnt a stretch to figure out that he was something special.

Thanks for playing. Stick to NPR, you know nothing of pool.
