San Jose vs The Beard.

RJ..You were making a little sense, until you stated a game between Fred and I, would have been worth watching...
If we had played even, it would have been a 'HELL of a boring game' to watch !...Fred himself, (before we started feuding)..admitted he wanted no part of my action...He's not here to defend himself, but, in case you've never noticed,
he did not concede much, to ANYONE !...And as Fred himself liked to say, "There are plenty of people who know"..

SJD

PS..In all his trips to California and the South back in the day, I was very good action, and VERY easy to find !..There was
also a very good reason we never played...I'll let you figure out why !

Well, you obviously missed my point. I was trying to give you both a compliment and that it would have been fun to watch two expert players playing the game that loved to bark at each other as well. But, even in death, you're not going to give an inch and just admit it would be a fun game to watch ????

So, if it makes you feel better than you would beat him straight up in 1P, so be it. But then he robs you blind in banks. Then you both walk out even. Feel better ?

Freddie could have played Dick even in Banks and that's about it. I only saw Dick play once or twice, One Pocket against Ronnie both times. Naturally I thought Ronnie was stealing from some sucker but I soon saw that was not the case at all. Ronnie had his hands full with this clean cut looking guy.

I saw my dear friend (you're right he was Brilliant) Freddie play many times. He could play right there with just about anyone at Banks but his One Pocket game was not at that level. He was a One Pocket shortstop, lots of knowledge but a little short when it came to running balls.

I really miss Freddie. He was one of those bigger-than-life people. I'm so fortunate to have spent a lot of time with him (in and out of the poolroom) in our younger days. We were buddies first before anything else! :smiling-heart:

Dick I think you were a top notcher. Just took exception to the "best who ever posted here" remark. I think you yourself would agree that many fine players have posted here as well who were in your league.

YES !!!:)..Except for one thing, RJ...I would not get up out of the electric chair, to play bank pool with anyone !...However,
I did once challenge Fred to play a little "pocket speed" banks. (as in 1P style banking)..He did not accept. :o

And please don't play the 'death card' on me...You know I spoke to him the same way when he was alive !..I'm sure he would
call me a chicken sh*t wimp (or worse)..if I backed off now, just because he's gone !

PS..Besides, I'll be joining him soon enough, and we can continue our BS..I'm quite sure we'll be in the same place :grin-angelic:

PPS..But it will definitely be BYOB, (Bring Your Own Bimbo) when its party time ! :p

..Though I would like to know the name of the Honey sitting in Freddy's lap !!!!!! <--You have got to be kidding ???
...My girl could give Freddie's 'spaced out' bimbo, 10 to 1, for looks (or anything else) !..RJ, your taste in women, is even WORSE than your judgment in pool players skill level !

I never said he was better, I was trying to be polite because yes, Freddy was a good friend of the family, and only offered it would be a fun watch to match.... that's all I said.

How that was some how insulting to you is beyond me ? Getting compared to a HOF banks guy, author and all around pool genius who knew everyone and anyone that played the game, yet somehow it offends you

C'mon Dick, Chill out, it's good medicine ;)

Though I would like to know the name of the Honey sitting in Freddy's lap !!!!!!

Sorry, Jay, I'm not looking to argue with you. But Freddy was certainly above shortstop level at 1P. If you can get Artie, or Billy or someone else that saw him play on a regular basis that says that, I'll bite, but until then, no way. It's no secret Freddy taught Efren to play 1P, and don't too many shortstops that could teach him that well

But in banks, you are calling it even with SJD and Freddy ? C'mon Jay. I've never seen SJD play pool, so I'm not making the call, but you're calling it even against a guy who admits he would not leave the electric chair to play banks, thus it sounds like a little more "west coast" bias coming out ;)

Freddy, in his heyday, was in the top 10 for white bankers in the country. He was the best white banker in Chicago, but with Bugs hanging out, he was always only gonna be the best white banker, cause Bugs was one of the best ever, white or black

I don't disagree with you on the Banks statement. Freddie could play the game! He was most definitely a favorite over Dick at Banks. At One Pocket Freddie had vast knowledge but his shot making and cue ball were only average. A good shortstop is what I would call him, which means he could beat most players, just not the really strong ones.

I saw Freddie in action many times in his prime and even played him a little myself, but we won't go into that. I would call myself a shortstop too and it took a very good player to beat me back then. I can still zing it playing Banks and not too many guys can give me 5-4 now.

I can give you 5-4!

And it is no secret that Freddy taught Efren the intricacies of the game of one pocket many years ago in Chicago. Freddy was a pool player who had an exceptional high IQ, thus, 1P would be right up his alley, and it was. Freddy's banking game obviously made his one pocket game strong as hell, because you could not really leave him safe to often, he banked from everywhere :)

Plus, one of his best friends in the world was Artie, who was a mainstay at Freddy's pool room....Artie's apt was only 100 yards away from the front door ;)

Biily was another very good friend of Freddy, not to mention quite few other top 1P players of the day. Heck, Grady and Freddy spoke all the time. So, yeah, knowing what I know about SJD on the forums from folks that saw him in his prime, and seeing Freddy play in his prime, I make no predictions, other than it would have been a HELL of a game to watch, but probably not as fun as the barking that would have taken place before the match ;)

Never ran into San Jose Dick until the mid 90s. Never ran into Chuck Morgan either. Would have ducked both of them anyway, they were both monsters. No Onepocket for sure.

Now if you said a real journeyman, like the San Man, knew more than me about 1 hole, I would not take offense. I might s****** at the fool who said that, but I would allow that the San Man knew the game better than a lot of OTHER people.

J.R. Gay, --- never played him. Richie Richeson -- played him, big heart, big gamble, but not privy to the inner 1 pocket game. Strawberry -- played him, charged him 10k in a black south side pool room in Chicago. He was more of a shooter. Petie Fusco-- we never played, he always asked for a spot he didn't need. Never seen him play enough. His cousin Jimmy was a master player. Dave Bollman -- shot great straight pool and nine ball -- could'nt find his pocket with an Indian guide. Nick Varner -- the greatest player of all-time who doesnt know the game. He can beat almost anybody playing 1 pocket, but he still plays the game backwards. If he changed his thinking he could probably play with Effren. Speaking of Effren, he can spot the world 10 - 8 -- and he has gaping holes in his game. I know because I put some of them there. He learned the game from me. We played every day for six months. Once I caught on that he was watching everything that I was doing, I purposely inserted some bad stuff for him to learn. I better stop now before I get more guys mad at me. Oh yeah, before I forget, another master player was Danny Jones. He was one of the few guys Artie ever quit. Cannonball Lefty Chapman (another master) was the other. Artie didn't like what they were doing.
The Beard

For your information Freddy claimed to have "taught" Efren until he got called out on it a few times and then it changed to "Efren learned by playing me for a year in Chicago". By the way, they played very cheap.

Freddy even claimed credit for the flaws in Efren's game:D.

Convince me of what exactly? Did I say Freddy was better than SJD in 1 hole. Nope. Did I say Freddy was more than a shortstop in 1p? Yep. Did I say Freddy would smoke SJD in banks? Yep. Did I say Freddy taught Efren 1P? Yep.

Not a untrue statement in the lot. But, thanks for playing.

Like I told you the last time, you don't have a clue about pool or poolplayers. Go play in NPR and argue about white guys killing black guys. That's your strength. Go with your strength.

What a coward Dennis, you need to come back to MF for a little revenge. Yes, the expert that you are. I asked you a straight forward question, and you could not answer it. What part did I lie about ? Remind me again of your expert pool qualifications

Anytime you wanna come back to NPR to argue your lame arse political views, come on back. I'll go easy on you next time. I didn't realize you were still butt sore about it... LOL

OK, now we can find some common ground

Is Old Nine Baller "Cowboy Dennis" from onepocket.org?

NO !...Dennis doesn't roll like that..He is on semi-permanent hiatus from the pool forums, and he won't be back until certain parties either die off, or go away completely !..Oddly enough, even "I" have been accused of being 'oldnineballer', by a couple of clueless idiots on 1P.org !...I have no idea who he is, other than what I read in his public profile...But I obviously appreciate the favorable things he has said about me, and my game !

SJD

PS..ChicagoRJ, is definately NOT a 'clueless idiot' !..But, he is hung up on some severely misguided loyalties, when it comes to judging player skill levels..Nothing wrong with being a "homey"! (but Chicago homey's, are blindly biased individuals) ;)

Hey, I gave in to the 1P match, you win. And The Beard spanks you in Banks. I'm cool with that :) Artie should have been my Chicago Homey for the 1P match with you !!!

Not that you and Jay don't have a few West Coast biases though ;)
