Yes, he fluked it. The apology is the main clue. Short-long at the start is much more natural.... At 0:30 I think he was trying to get to the side rail for the second rail and go five rails, and he fluked into the shot. Or was he playing this strange pattern? He gave a little wave as if it was a fluke, and that is a really strange way to play that shot.
That was the shot he was playing. I think most would play thin off the left side of yellow. The way he played it the second object ball (ball 3 in 3-c talk) was a large target because he could have scored direct or hit the long rail before. One thing to watch for is how the top players manage to make the last ball big by shot choice.But then at 2:03 he played a similar shot the short way. I, as a pool player first and a mediocre 3 cushion player, never considered that pattern. I would've tried going 5 rails off the left side of yellow. So maybe the first shot was what he was trying. ...
