Sandpaper questions

Hey guys and gals...
I was curious on what kind of sandpaper you all stock up on?
Silcone carbide? Alum Oxide? and brand...
What do you use for different types of projects?
Like... Is one type better for certain repairs?

joey can afford the fancy stuff, he's got a real job:grin:

norton 3x works for me for rough
doesnt load up , lasts long time

3m wet/dry for finish, 600 to 5000
 
I've tried and am satisfied with both 3M and Klingspor wet/dry.

3M is easier for me to get locally,but Klingspor is slightly cheaper per sheet but have to order it. Tommy D.

Tony is right on with this vendor.

The 320, 220, and 180 grit non clog is awesome.

They also have all the silicone wet dry stuff and they have replacement drum and tractor sanding belts for my performax drum sander much cheaper than JET OEM replacement belts.

You can't go wrong.

I've bought from them for several years and although they are cheap, the quality of their paper leaves much to be desired. The coarser grits do not adhere to the paper well and the grits are not of similar size, meaning, when you are sanding you always get deeper cuts caused by the larger grits cutting deeper. Your always chasing your tail trying to get a uniform scratch pattern.

The wet and dry papers 600 and above lose their grit the instant water touches them and they will no longer sand. JMO

Mercer Abrasives has a fairly good product that is reasonable in price.

I found them on Ebay but lately, I do not see their product there.
