Sardo Rack Question

Why did all tournaments stop using the Sardo Rack? Were there issues with it? Does it do what it says it will do (perfect rack)? Are the dimples it puts it the cloth permanent? I have the Delta-13. It's a lot better than the wood or plastic racks, but not perfect. One more question. If all the Sardo Rack does is dimple the cloth, can't I just tap the balls to make my own dimples. Sorry for all the questions, but I have a birthday coming up and I'm running out of things I need at my age. Thank you.

Yep you can dimple the cloth yourself.

I have a Sardo and I got tired of using it very quickly. I would much rather have a Delta 13. I'd guess that for most who bought a Sardo they now have that gizmo hanging on the wall not in use.

I have a Sardo. It does all that it claims. It racks them so perfect that it definitely will wear spot/holes in your cloth prematurely. If you get one, keep the spot changed before it wears through the cloth. I don't use it anymore.

Thank you both. I'll dimple myself now, before I have the new cloth put on. If the dimples cause to much roll off I won't put them in the new cloth. The one problem I see with putting them on your home table is that you will get use to breaking with a perfect rack and won't get that every break at tournaments or in action at the poolroom. Could be a big problem. Johnnyt

Dimple yourself?

I don't think you can just do the dimpling. Sardo provides a plastic template that puts the dimples just a little closer together than the balls will allow. That's where the magic is. The dimples keep every ball touching their neighbors because of the precise placement of the dimples.

Same here. I had a Sardo, got tired of it, and now it's just collecting dust. The dimples in my cloth got pretty bad and affected my shots, but I guess that's my fault... still, I would stick to a traditional wooden rack or get a Delta-13.

Thank you. I didn't think of that...it makes sense. If I had a CNC Milling maching I could make the template for it lol. Johnnyt

They Stopped Paying

The reason you don't see the Sardo rack being used at tournaments anymore is that Sardo stopped paying the WPBA to use their product.

Leaves a giant opening for us, perhaps we should begin marketing the Johnnyt/kvinbrwr rack. I want it to plug in and have lots of flashing lights.

Meantime, the thing does make a perfect rack. Carmine Sardo tells me that when they used to all do the opening break at the same time, you could look down the line of tables and see all the 9 Balls still sitting right where they were racked (which Sardo claims is the result of a perfect rack, no movement from the 9 on the break).

Sardo was just a gimmick. Once you have the dimples hammered into the table, you don't need the rack to get the balls to sit in them. But I could never hammer "dimples" into a beautiful table anyway. Just learn to rack them yourself.

Could not resist!

No Tight Rack Thread would not be complete without the above Post.
