Yes the DCC is coming to a close but as always there is so good action still to be played.........

Gabe and Kid D are about to go at it 10 ahead for 7jellybeans

and Hagar Jr is playing an unnamed female tonight giving her the 8 and the break........

more to come later

Now that's that kind of details we're looking for! :D

Thanks for the action update, SweatinNbettin! :)

I pick Kid Delicious to beat Gabe Owen, not taking anything away from the Oklahoma Kid and recent 2004 U.S. Open Champ, but ANYTHING Danny bets on, I'm in! ;)

Welcome to AzBilliards Discussion Forum, Gabesmom! :)

Gabe must have made you proud last year winning the Open, and immediately thereafter, he had an excellent performance at the Mosconi Cup!

Yes it's been quite a year to say the least. The goal for years is that he get what bit of fair share he possibly could with so many great players out there. Jones, Archer, and many others have been a real blessing to him and his career thus far. I think he's having fun at times even with all the pressure!! I talked to him briefly today, and he was ready for tonight.

Welcome to the neighborhood we call the forum. I can tell you that I was extremely pleased when your son was a late addition to the US Mosconi Cup team. He certainly justified his selection with his fine play in Holland. The story Gabe wrote in 2004 was a great one, and here's to his continued success.

Thank you very much! I'm sure he's giving it all he's got!! This is right up his alley, he's always been in sports and tries to be a team player. I really appreciate AZBilliards (Mike is the only one I know specifically), for everything they do. That is how I keep up with most of what he's doing out there, except for occasional phone calls, until he flies home when he gets the chance. I can keep up with Gabe's older brother, he lives & works on the east coast, doesn't travel. But AZBilliards keeps up with Gabe for me! haha This forum is great, I am learning from it also. It's interesting reading all the different posts about all the great players and what's going on! This is the first time I found it on the website. Thanks for the warm welcome!! Kathy

I have been exchanging email with gabesmom for years. She definitely follows everything Gabe does out there on tour.

Welcome to the forums, Kathy.

Well Gabesmom.....as we left the room Gabe was up a game. They have been going at it for almost 4 hours. No major boo boos on either part just some great safety play by both. I am sure we will wake up and it will be like last year when Kid D and TOny Chohan were still playing as they tore down the tables around them, remember that JAM?

As far as Hagar he did not play but Jeanette is playing around down in the other room.

Scotty Frost and Corey playing 1 pocket (next to Gabe and Kid D) 6 ahead not sure for what. Corey was up 4 games when we left.

Tony W is upstairs on the 7ft. playing 9 ball 10 ahead, i think the guys last name is Smith.

Other than that all is quiet..........ANother year in the books, cant wait for next year.

Last year what did Tony Chohan and Kid D. play for, what kind of weight if any, and who won? Just curious.

I was taking part of Chohan's bet last year. Tony got the wild Eight and the first break and started his coin one game up going 10 ahead. After playing all night and I was lucky my flight had been cancelled due to all the ice. The next morning my rescheduled flight was getting ready to leave in a couple of hours and the Diamond guys were already breaking down all of tables, They played a race to 21 for the cash where Chohan won something like 21 to 13.

I heard they're keeping the tables there until Monday this year!

Two years ago, Tony Chohan had a great Derby experience as well. I remember getting on the elevator with him one morning. He had just finished winning a big score and was turning in for a little rest. Those young guns definitely have the endurance it takes to battle it all night long, and sometimes it's that endurance that gets them to the finish line.

Group shot taken at DCC last year: Tony "T-Rex" Chohan, Scott Frost, and Earthquake. :)

just got home 10 minutes ago. gabe lost 5 games of the 10 ahead set. they had agreed to quit at 11:00

The main room tables were going away as of 11 this morning.

Scotty, Phoebe, Mika and another guy were playing doubles and they moved to the action room.

I woke up and went downstairs and saw Kid D up 5 games went to move the car and cam back down and it was over but i found out they quit at 11 as agreed in advance. I thought Gabe was down 4 games at the end???
Maybe Gagesmom will let us know???

Well back to work tomorrow to rest. Hubby is sick from all the late nights and cold hallway and tournament room. Then they cranked the heat up on day 4 then turned what felt like the air on day 6. Oh well, till next year

Tony Watson played Doug Smith...Doug got the 8 when the coin was on his side of the table, Tony gave the 7 when the he was ahead. They both got 7 games winner at one point...but broke even.

Corey won the 6 ahead set for 3 large in very quick fashion, then they continued to play for 5 small a game and Scott won back 5 games. Corey shoots up in the air a lot, but is learning the game fast. Scott kept saying 'before you shoot which ball are you trying to make in your hole.' I think Corey needs a manager when he is playing....if Scott wasn't a fair gambler, Corey would have let him break twice in a row & also double paid Scott for a game twice with each time Scott giving it back to him.

Kid Delicious Danny Basavich beat Big Country Gabe Owens out of 5 games. I have read about the antics of Kid Delicious but now got to see it in person. 30 minutes of playing....10-15 minutes of break time. At one point, Gabe had enough & asked Danny whether he was really interested in playing pool cause that is what Gabe thought they were doing. All this did was get Gabe another hour added to the time frame they had agreed too. I don't think Basavich shoots all that slow, he takes his time but is not overly slow. And he moves surprising light on his feet for a big man. But the constant breaks was a big distraction to Gabe. From talking to Gabe afterwards, I don't think that they will ever play again. Too many other players out there that just want to gamble and PLAY. By the way, Gabe played the worst pool I have seen him play in over 2 years. At one point, he missed with ball in hand. Just wasn't his night.

Jeanette Lee gave some guy 7 on the wire going to 11 and won 4 sets. I would say the guy was a high C player to low B. Jeff from Indy got to break the balls for Jeanette. She played good, but you could see a difference in her game on the slower table with tighter pockets then what the women play on for TV. I heard she just had back surgery so that might have had something to do with it.

Thanks for the update! I don't know, I wasn't there, but sounds like one of those matches that Gabe got to where he didn't care, because of the distractions mentioned, but would follow through on his agreement to the match. I'm sure he's on his flight right now, so will call him when he lands in Tulsa. Thanks to all of you for all the info!

Did you see the match between Danny and Bustamante in the tournament?
I was timing his shots and he averaged 1 minute between shots. That is a lifetime to an opponent and the fans. They should put a shot clock on him every time he plays. I heard he is working with somebody to try and speed himself up but it is a disgrace. In the last game of the match we had a bet on over or under on how long the game would take and Danny had ball in hand after the break. The bet was 7. I took over and won. Now that is slooooooow. Of the 6 matches his naturally took the longest and about a half hour longer than everyone else. He is a great guy and player but booooooring. Reminds me of Sergio Garcia on the golf course, although he has improved, with all his waggles. I thought it was funny when Danny waggled his rear end on the shot before he scratched and lost the match. lol

Just talked to Gabe. He overslept today due to that match, so missed his flight this evening. He had a few things to say about the match. Said he may do it again sometime if timing element of some kind is changed. Said it was pretty frustrating the way it was.
