I know this is not a pool thread, but I just heard that Randy Coutoure retired fromthe UFC again. He sited money and the fact that they would not sign a certain other fighter. Too bad. I loved watching him fight.
 
Because a lot of people on here comment about MMA on occasion, and Joe Rogan, who announces for the UFC posts here. I thought some light may have been shed on the subject.

If anyone has earned a retirement its this man. I would not be surprised to see him come out to fight Fedor somewhere though.

I know that if he has severed his commitment to the UFC and I was a promoter for Fedors company, I would get my checkbook out and give Randy a call. :D
 
Randy can't declare free agency or ask for an arbitration.
So, he "retired".
Until a bigger check comes of course.
 
Randy could easliy fight and make some $$$$. I honestly think its a a bit of a ploy on his part to get Fedor to sign. If he doesnt then Randy will continue to do what he is doing.
Im not sure how much money is involved in coaching and having a team but Team Coutoure seems pretty good.
 
randy quit the ufc because he's the ufc's main poster boy and they were offering the worlds best fighter a lot more money to fight him than they were paying him, he resigned from the ufc but didn't retire from fighting, his contract with the ufc expires in 9 months i believe, after that he will either retire or go fight fedor in m1, and if u are a randy fan do not watch this fight unless u want to see randy take a bigger beating than he ever did against chuck, fedor is the baddest man on planet earth

Randy can't fight anywhere, Frank. He still is under contract with the UFC for 2 more fights, and there is a clause in his contract that states he cannot fight elsewhere unless he honors that current commitment. Once those 2 fights are out of the way, he can refuse to sign a new contract with UFC and then - and only then - can he do whatever he wants.

IMO, opinion this was a ploy by M-1, and I don't think holding onto Fedor Emelianenko will do much for them in the long run as long as Randy still locked in place with is current UFC contract. Of course Randy could request to be bought out of his current contract, but knowing how Dana does business - that's not likely to happen. All that would do is give M-1 the opportunity that they have been looking for, and Dana White and the Fertitta brothers aren't stupid.

Either way, this will be an interesting situation to watch. I am close to several UFC and WEC fighters - the ones I have talked to respect Randy immensely and hold him in the highest regard - but they also feel as if bashing Dana on the way out was completely uncalled for.
 
i'd be very surprised if fedor doesn't stick with m-1 at least for a few fights, i'd never heard of the organization until this past week and from what i read fedor's manager is the owner of m-1 and also there's rumors that vince mcmahon is gonna be buying m-1 if they signed fedor

i think it was all a big ploy by fedor and his manager to put as much money into their pockets as they possibly can, fedor's recent history shows that he prefers to fight in russia over anywhere else in the world and also he has always said that his #1 goal is to provide for his family, i really don't think he cares about his legacy or who he fights as long as he's making as much money as he possibly can

I don't know how anyone could make him more money than the UFC. They are the biggest draw with the most money coming in. I hope it all ends up working out. You really can't blame Dana in the matter from what I have seen.
 
For those interested in this topic, here is a link to an interview that Dana White gave Thomas Gerbasi yesterday morning about Randy Couture's retirement. I think if you read this interview in it's entirety, you will see that Dana White understands that Randy has a lot of the wrong people in his ear right now. Hopefully, like Dana says in this interview, they will be able to wrk things out once Randy gets done with filming his movie in South Africa. As always, Dana's "tell it like it is" approach comes through in this interview, and he explains why the deal with Fedor never materialized.
