I know it's off subject, but if your all time favorite Pro player was there playing challenge matches against non Pro's, and you were given the opportunity to play that person 3 games in a row, but was required to pay $10 per game, $30 total....would you turn it down?

99% of them would .
Then the 1% that did pay would have to listen to what suckers they were by all the "smart" guys.
They sit around the pool room all day long waiting for something dead to walk in to feast on ,
play for 5 a game one pocket and quit if they get up 20 dollars , then run straight to the race track or casino and blow 200 .00
I have seen this in every pool room I have ever been in , 100s of them.
I don't like to try to figure it out , because it makes my head hurt.

My point was that he'd have no problem or complaint about spending money once he's paid to get in, yet none of the money he spends on location goes to Allen.....yet, his complaint is in the cost of admission:rolleyes:

I think it was an awesome deal.

I paid $20 and got to play on the Diamond Big Foot table.... (If I had the space, I would buy one)

I paid another $20 and got to sit very close to SVB play Duel. I was so close to the #1 player in the world I could hear their conversations.

Total bargain! I would have paid more for the opportunity to watch that match. I just can't believe how good they are, it was amazing.

I can't wait for next year to do it all over again.

If that's what u like come to Derby City you'll love it and it cost less, but trufully I think everyone should be happy Allen puts on a.big tournament.

I get that this is a discussion group and all things pool should be fair game. I also think people should be able to say that they found something too expensive or too uncomfortable or poorly organized.

But what I don't get are folks going to an event year after year if they're unhappy with it.

I went to the SBE for the first time in 2010. It was what it was and I didn't feel it was worth a repeat visit. I think that's what you do if you're unhappy with how things are being run. But repeatedly going and then kvetching about the payouts are this, the entry is that, they let pros into the amateur events, bleachers sucked, food was horrible... there are no surprises there. Don't go. Problem solved.

Exactly

Exactly,
I had the same experience a few years back. A friend and I drove up from North Caolina paid the admission, bought stuff there, got to sit and watch Shane play among others and watched the greatest pool of my life.

It was worth what we paid and more because we are fans.

The promoter has one shot at making his year and he deserves it. When people take the profit out of something, it goes away.

Is that what you want?

Although we be a minority apparently there are those of us that find the value in such things.

Every video that Cue Sport Nation posted on Facebook of matches going on, the stands were empty. Even the video of Morra winning, the cheers were minimal. Anyone in this thread that was there that can comment on what the attendance was like?

Both Friday and Sat, the stands were pretty full when I went in.
Sunday I was outside watching the 1pocket.
I would assume that the stands were empty when Morra won simply because it was late on Sunday and everything was already being torn down.
By the time the finals happened, the booths were all packed up, tables were being loaded up, and the majority of general public had already left.
Probably be a different story if the finals of everything finished the day before the event closed up when everything was still up and running.

I did not attend any of the pro matches, other than what was being played on the Expo main floor, but there was a line to get into the pay pro matches at different times.

Ok must have just been the angle of the Cue Sport Nation video -- every video he posted (not just the finals) - empty stands. Check him out on facebook.

The viewers would have been on the left and right side of view. Fairly busy in there - everybody was told repeatedly to stay quiet(which is a problem with the game IMHO)

I haven't watched every video but I just checked out a couple just now after you mentioned it.
His vantage point is from the other set of bleachers closer to the entrance. No idea if they were filled up or not but it sounded pretty full when they were cheering.
Also, I can't imagine sitting across the room, if the match you wanted to watch was on this side.
Plus, like I said, that was later on last night, after the rest of the expo had closed and the majority of people had already left.

Can't speak for other videos or matches, but that's my take on it.

If the seats for the pro matches were full that means he may not be charging enough. If the seats were empty he is going to need to lower the prices. The market will set its own prices in the end regardless of what people feel is fair.

So you basically decide if the pro portion was overpriced vs under-priced by the number of unsold or empty seats?
Wouldn't the venue, facility & opponents be variables also affecting ticket sales as much as any hike in the price of attendance?

Its very possible that you are dealing with a limited market. Not a whole bunch of folks give a crap about pool. You have more up North than down South so you might be lucky to be drawing anyone at all.

People have short memories.
How quickly they forget.

Back when it used to be at Valley Forge, you weren't watching any of the pro tournament unless you paid for a pro session.

For decades.

Pool players are the nittiest bunch of people.

Blow $30 bucks on some stupid layered tip because of the hype, get all bent out of a shape when someone ups their fee the price of an appetizer at a restaurant.

I guess Allen should just pack it up and stop having the expo so the guys crying have ZERO access to pool and merchandise.
Heck, everyone should just go back to the dark ages when you learned about new stuff and ordered it from the back of a pool magazine.

But then people would bittch about that too.

I guess in order to make everyone happy, Allen is supposed to hold an event, and go broke in the process, let everyone in for free, and give ALL the money to the players.

Please stop with that nonsense. If Allen didn't make a living, you wouldn't have a SBE to go to.

Why complain about money?
Someone please show me how many events are being held, where you pay $100 to win 5k, that is also paying 64 places deep.

Show me how many events like this exist.

If the players don't like the prize money, tell them not to play, or to go get real jobs and stop whining about it.
No one is getting their arm twisted to go play.

I have a great memory. In fact its doing a lot better then wallet now adays. Where can you get 110 entry fee to win 5k? How about I enter one for $100 get to play on 9 footer that has carpet and chair without all the aholes walking around.

Get it straight buddy if you are going to jack up the prices make it nicer.
