SBE "Amateur" event

He's actually been around a long time, a good guy, and a great player. So yes, just your opinion. He was simply saying that, while it's always fun to say that I would gamble with so and so, it often turns out to suck because you never really get a shot and the only thing you walk away with is being able to say I donated $xxx to Y. If that's your thing then have at it but it doesn't make him a bad guy for pointing it out.
Thanks for the thought, Koop

There's a big difference between knowingly sacrificing your money to pros in a professional event, and pulling a known pro in the first or second round of an amateur event when everyone else plays around your speed.

Exactly. I don't mind donating to DCC, because it's a Pro-am, and you know what you're in for. But you are going to get some others there to donate as well, so you might get a few extra matches than you should.

But, in a amateur event, it should be for amateurs.

If those same folks are so HAPPY to lose to a PRO in an event, it's pretty simple really, just sign up for the Pro event. Then you are guaranteed to play a PRO, guaranteed to get robbed, and guaranteed to get the "learning" experience that apparently only comes with getting your arse kicked ;)

If the pro event fee is more than the amateur event fee, thereby being cost prohibitive for the personal benefit derived from playing......then, no, it's not "pretty simple".

Oh, so money matters? Donating, only if it is cheap enough? Thus, you help make the point, Pro's should play in Pro events.

That $65 to you maybe be like paying a "pro event" fee for someone else.

It's not like the Pro event is hard to find, it's in the same hotel. Thus, they should be playing with the folks their speed. Not everyone goes to events to get robbed, some go to compete, and they should have the same opportunity to compete on even footing, just like the Pro event.

I think I can see where this is heading.
Maybe you're one of those "got to have the last word" types? Not for me to know and really doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
But, I do know when to let go of a particular conversation.
As for "being robbed"....now THAT is indeed pretty simple. Just don't gamble any money.
I guess whether a person plays in whatever division all depends on what is important to an individual. Another of those "to each his own things".

Last word? I was just responding that it does matter to folks. That's great that you wanna play in a event you have NO shot at winning, and have money to "donate". Others do have a shot, and they should be give the opportunity to complete fair and square.

That's not asking for too much, is it ??

I looked over the brackets and saw Manuel Perez. Is that "the" Manny Perez?

"the" Manny Perez is I believe from Kansas City area, and that one said I think South Carolina on the list of entrants ---so I don't know.

So just to make a small update. I owe a big apology to Josh Roberts and his camp. I'm still a fan and have much respect, because it turns out it wasn't the same "Josh Roberts " that we are all thinking of.

I suppose it's a common name.
Ike Runnels and Jonathan Pinegar, however.......

Ike Runnels and Jonathan Pinegar? What bracket are they in? Couldn't find their names.

Oh yeah... sorry. My update was too the attempt that these types would even try to come and steamroll an event. Hennessey got booted (or should I say rejected) from attending the amateur event. Ike was notified before he could cancel his flight. So there we have it right. We can close the thread now? Lmao

They sign a professional contract that states they aren't allowed to enter certain events? Any amateur can sign up for the pro event correct? They just have to pay the entrance fee. If any of the names mentioned have won a professional tournament, recognized by sbe to be a pro level, world class talent event than ok. But most of those names are just highly skilled amateurs. And they can enter the event if they pay, just like anyone else. Deal with it and stop bitcing. You want the tournament to become easier for you so you can feel better? I've entered it three times and I have no business being in it. I'll never win it. I do it to see how far I can go and it's just really effing fun to be surrounded by a thousand pool players.

For all of you guys that want to play SVB just ask him to play a short race for a hundred bucks and if he isn't doing anything he will play.

After he sees your speed he will probably even give you a fair spot and play again.

I have taken him to different pool halls and virtually no one wants to play him a fair game. "A" players ask for wild balls and the breaks on bar tables, it is a joke.

I also agree it isn't a whole lot of fun playing guys like that even, all you do is watch them run out.

About 25 years ago when Richie Richeson was playing incredible bar pool he talked about how he played this guy nine ball for $3 a game and beat him out of over $500. I said I would play anybody in the world for $3 a game, he said get up there! After a couple of kick shots in 16 games I decided to give him $50 and quit!

Sounds like you should have entered the pro event then. You don't want the tourney to be "easier", correct. So,quit your b1tching, and step up to the big boy table, right?

I'm sure those amateurs that claw their way to the end only lose to a pro, we'll be fine. After all, they can say they finished second, got half the money, no trophy, but hey, he learned something and that is "sandbagging" and "cheating" seem to be acceptable form of play, maybe I'll try that next year in some tourneys myself.

I'm pretty sure I wrote I won't win it but still enter it. But I'll let you make a fool of yourself all on your own
