SCAM ALERT Involving Mt GC1

Welcome to the internet. I have experienced the same thing a few years ago. A new poster came on the site and posted some pictures of a Southwest that was for sale by 2 individuals in Vietnam. He wanted to know if the cue was a real Southwest.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=171941

Long story short, they were using pictures I took of my cue lifted off of a photobucket account, the seller wanted 8000 dollars for it. They were presenting this cue as the one for sale, down to made up specs of tip diameter and shaft weights. There was nothing I could do about it.

I agree with the poster that said, if you don't want this to happen don't put pictures on the internet.

I emailed him the following:

'Just saw your ad in Craigslist and was wondering if you have any
pictures of your pool table? I know the one in the picture isn't
yours and was wondering what the actual table looks like. I am
interested but want to know what I'm actually looking at.'

I'll post when he responds:)

I emailed him yesterday and he replied that the pic in his ad is an old one. The table now is in need of many repairs and when fixed up would be worth $10K.

Brian,

One of my friends here in Rochester just had someone lift his E-bay / Pay Pal account doing essentially what this guy is doing. Posting false pictures of goods and asking for a small deposit. E-mail address only. Might be a lot of extra work but .... go to www.annualcreditreport.com. Use one of your three free annual reports to look at recent activity on your credit file. Might be all for naught. Better safe than sorry in this world. There might be a reason they chose your table.

I've seen listings like this before.

I was going to buy a snowmobile a few years back and the same thing happen. A ridiculous low price on a newer machine located out east. I saw the same picture listed by someone else. I then played a bit with the scammer via email and they wanted to ship it to me. I told them I would buy it but I would be out there in two days anyway and I would haul it back myself. Needless to say they stopped correspondence. The person listed themselves as a Captain in the Army. Moral of the story.
If its too good to be true, You'll probably get screwed.
They have so many scams on timeshares in MX that I could write a book.

Lol the guy responded:

'Looks exactly like the one in the picture just a different color and I don't have any pictures right now. It is in San Bernardino at a skate park I'll make a deal with you if you want to take a look

So I told him:

'I thought it was in need of repair and once repaired would be worth
10k? Are you now saying that it is fully repaired and sitting in a
skate park?

I am still interested in a deal but I need more proof before
proceeding further.'

Some people don't have digital cameras or fancy phones (i know i don't).

Maybe some guy has a table just like yours and just searched online for any pictures that looked similar to what he has to sell to save himself some trouble.

It's the internet, if you don't want people stealing your pictures don't put them online.

I think the only thing you can do is maybe Email the guy saying you saw your pictures on his ad and you'd like him to kindly remove them, if he tells you to **** off then you have no rights since you posted them in a public domain.

Hey at least he didn't take your pictures and use them in an country wide anti gay ad like happened to those 2 gay guys a couple of weeks ago...lol.

Just because somebody doesn't have a digital camera doesn't mean they should steal pictures that do not belong to them. Matter of fact, just about EVERY cell phone has a built in camera. So I can't think of a good excuse to not being able to post your own pictures.

TC- You can watermark your pictures to prevent this from happening in the future

imo - rather than "call him out", set him up.
let him pull the scam so you can bust his ass red-handed.

Yes well I live in Massachusetts and he lives in San Bernadino California so that isnt really an option for me lol.

I retract my statements since the guy has apologized..

I'm sorry! I'm the guy:(

Wow I have no idea it would happen! I am very sorry to the guy whose picture this is all I did was use your picture of your table because it look like the exact same one is mine and out of the millions of people on the planet I didn't think you would actually see it it looks like it pissed a lot of people off and I'm very sorry for that it's only because I'm not a professional on the computer. I have the same table just without the ball return the color was the same at one time and it was such a resemblance and that's the best picture I had to pick from like mine. So I'm very very sorry please forgive me I deleted the post I'll take my own pictures from now on! I'll do better I promise, world please don't be mad at me, I love you!

Hey Jason, good job Sir. I'm the guy who called you earlier and sent the link to the thread. At first I was pissed but after talking with you I can tell your heart is pure. I'm glad you came on here and apologized. Now the healing can begin.

Like I said, if you find that this is a Gold Crown I based on the things I told I would be a buyer at $1,000.

Cheers,
Hung

I think the issue was that scammers like to take existing pictures and pass them off as theirs, but in some cases that is not what happens. I actually have used other images off the web as a sample pic of the item, but then you need to state that it's a stock image and that it's not your picture. The picture used technically does not "belong" to anyone, but you can't pass it off as yours. If you don't copyright the picture, it's fair game for personal use. What you should have done was written clearly in the post "this is NOT a picture of my table but one that looks like it".

Oh, and GL with the sale, and visit here some more, lots of neat pool info on this site.

It's probably the city...

An astute fellow azer has brought it to my attention that someone in San Bernadino CA is selling my pool table.

They have apparently lifted a photo that I had posted a while back right here on az.

Here's the link:

Tht was two table colors ago. ha!

So what, if anything, should I do?

best,
brian kc

Since they're bankrupt, they're trying to fleece the public any way they can...
