Hello,

I recently joined a pool league and as everyone else fed up with the house cues. From what I've been reading I can't go wrong with a Schon. I saw one on ebay yesterday which was $599 or make an offer. I offered $450 and the guy accepted. The seller is "hockittome" so it seems like a pawn shop.

I've attached the pictures he provided and would like some advice as to whether this is a good deal. If so I can go ahead and pay the guy. He didn't give a model number but maybe someone out there can identify it.

wow, just joined a pool league and then went straight up to a $450 price range? I can't tell you about the schon but I do know you can get some great customs at that price range, and that you would've been more than happy with a used cue in the FS forum or those $100 imports rackem is selling there.

hope it rolls straight and i know someone will probably be able to identify it
 
As long as it's straight, the finish is in good condition, and there are no issues with the cue, it's a great price.

No idea who the seller is.

As far as getting a "custom" for $450, that Schon will serve just as well.

If its straight, you did just fine. About the "customs" in 450 price range....you'd spent twice the purchase price or more to get a similiar "custom" cue that is made as well with that amount of points, ringwork,and inlay work or would play as good a Schon. If you decide to sell it you should not loose any money on it as long as you take care of it. Keep it clean, no nicks, dings or dents and NO BORROWERS not even "just for one shot" thats when they get banged up it seems. Looks like Schon STL 13 model. The retail from Schon is 1100., REMEMBER that is Factory RETAIL! Not real world price. If you wish to buy again...check here on AZ first. I have seen some fantastic deals on Schons here. Snipershot, Bamacues,and Koinkid have the goods and you wont get treated any better on a deal anywhere. Just curious, did you read the sellers feedback before you bought? Thats the best way to decide to buy for a seller on ebay.

If you offered $450 and he accepted, then now is a little late to ask if it is a good deal.

You made a committment now follow through with it.

If it makes you feel better it is an okay deal, Schons play okay will serve you well.

Thanks for all of the advice. The seller only has a rating of 14 but some good reviews. From the picture there looks to be a lot of discoloration on the shaft, does this seem normal? I asked some questions and he is quite flexible about cancelling the order. To me a simple looking cue would do but since I'm just learning I didn't want a bad cue to make me miss more or not have a solid hitting sound you guys talk about. Another dealer is trying to see me a Lucasi LH40 but I read more positives about Schons and nothing about that one. Would a Lucasi Hybrid suit a beginner who plays once a week? thanks
 
Comparing a Lucasi to a Schon is like.....comparing a Yugo to a Mercedes Benz. Stick with the schon, and you'll be fine.

STAY AWAY FROM LUCASI! They end up being junk. Import Chinese junk! You can pay 300 and it will be worth about 100 or less if you have to resale! Everyone I have seen has slight to severe shaft problems and shoddy inlay/decal work. Real inlays I have seen on Lucasi cues have always have been felt through the finish.....Just buy the Schon cue. You'll love the cue. It will serve you well and it is an American made cue that you will not loose money on. The blue on the shaft can be taken care and the shaft can be cleaned and sealed. Making it look and feel new for about 15 - 20 dollars. Bluing on the shaft is not a detractor in this deal for you. Ok there is my opinion, for what it is worth. I think you'll be more happy with the Schon. Was there a case with it? It looks like it has a set of very nice joint protectors with it already thats a 10 to 30 dollar add if you go buy new ones. Really nice handmade wooden ones can cost upwards of 80 to 90 dollars.
 
I use 2 Schons and couldn't happier. At $450, I think you did well. As long as there are no issues with the butt. Have someone clean the shaft for you tho,
its got a bunch of caca on it.
 
That looks like a good price for that schon. i've never seen that model before though

you should check out mezz though. they're just as good if not better and you can pick one up pretty cheap used
 
Schon is made in Wisconsin, U.S.A. If you are an American, why consider a Chinese Lucasi, plus the Schon is a much better cue, and will hold it's value.
There are enough Americans out of work, don't contribute to the problem.

I think you made a good choice, Schon cues are the best production cues made today. All White in the inlays are Ivory and the rings are either Silver or Nickle Silver depending upon the model. There is no production cue made that is closer to a custom, but best of all they play jam up.
