I am interested in getting a Schon and I was just looking for any information anyone may have to help me with this decision.

Thank You,

Michael Kendall

??????????

I like older Schon's an usually have a couple for sale. I think the older ones play super.

Schons :-)

Love them, they are well put together for production cues.
Better than some of the others out there.
It would not be a bad choice for ones first cue. ;)

> I've played with the same one for 16 years, and out of probably 300 cues that I've hit balls with since then, there were no more than 6-7 that I honestly thought hit better. Two steel jointed Searings,a very late Gus,a late 80's high-end Joss, the twin to the Black Boar that Bustamante owned briefly, and 2 other Schons from around the same period as mine. Someone would have to offer me a ridiculous trade for mine, and I do mean RIDICULOUS. Not only would I have to be totally digging the hit,but it would have to be a s**tload nicer,as far as inlay work for any trade to be worth it based on the playability alone. Tommy D.

Excellent cues, great craftsmanship and nice design work. Playability varies person to person, but I will say for me..... they play great. Nice feel, solid construction, nice feedback (if you dont like steel joints, they will feel different to you).
I had a Joss custom made that I played with for 12 or so years. LOVED it, tried several cues after stupidly selling it... and nothing had the same hit or feel (best cue I ever owned). Until I played with a Schon that is...... :D
Played with Schons for the last 10 or so years.

Some info for those who call Schon "production"...from their website.

Schon Custom Cues came into existence in 1981 and we have been at our Burnham St. location since 1986. We have a miniscule output , sometimes going 2 weeks without actually finishing any cues. I frequently hear the all knowing term “production cue” applied to our cues with an implied sneer. The fact is that we are one of the oldest custom cuemakers in the world with a total staff today of 5 people. I personally design, finish and test every cue myself. Everyone here is a full time craftsman, not telemarketers or corporate hypsters. The only thing we do is make cues...Evan Clarke 1-11-05

I play with an STL17 that has as nice a hit IMO as any cue I have owned....except 1 Black Boar!:)

you can not go wrong with ANY Schon, they are all very well built.

Great cues, I have 2, and looking for another, I also have an older Schon for sale, 20oz, that is too heavy for me, pm me if you are interested. You can't go wrong, that do not have the resale value of a custom, but as far as playing, they are great.

great

I think they are made really great, but for me they hit too freaking stiff. I think that is why so many people put predator shafts on them.

Just my opinion though, but I will probably get a lot of flack for it. LOL

Don't know about the new ones but I have played with the old R2 and R5 for years. Great cues. If you can find one buy it.

I KNEW my fellow Schon lover River City would post on this thread, and he's got me covered, but I'll add my two cents anyway. You simply can't go wrong with a Schon. Great craftsmanship and great hit!

I bought Schon STL 01,I wanted to check out the hit with a ss joint.I had been playing with a Mcdermott. First impression was not good, I ended up breaking with it, it hit extremely stiff with the medium hard tip it came with. Then I decided to have a Moori soft tip put on it and oh my what a sweet cue it is now! It plays very well, the balance and feel instill confidence in every stroke. I would recommend a Schon to anyone( right after a Barry Cameron custom).
By the way I have the Mcdermotts I played with listed in the for sale section if anyone is interested ( just cant play with them anymore).

I have two Schons. One Is my main player( bottom cue in my avatar), the other I bought for a former friend who decided after the fact that he didn't want it (top cue in my avatar). It's barely been played with.
They both hit very nice. I am very pleased with them.

In my opinion, Schon makes the best production cue out there. The quality and workmanship is top-notch. And the materials they use are real, no fake stuff. Ivory is ivory, not bone ivory etc.

I've played with a C11 for the past 11 years. Standard shaft plays great, I also have had a predator shaft for it for 7 years. Great cue. I keep thinking I need something new, so I buy a new cue and shoot for a bit with it, but always end up going back to my schon. They are a hard cue to beat. Also, the customer service from Schon has been top notch for me. From general questions to the one small problem I had when I first got the cue, they've been very helpful. I'm thinking of getting mine refinished and possibly buying a new one this summer. They have a ebony model that has a dark rosewood (I think)handle that is amazing.
