Scooter, Family Man and Best Hustler in America

I had to say something regarding the scooter contraversy. I have known Scooter since he was 14 or so and been on the road with him quite a bit so heres what you guys dont know:

Concerning the theft charge basically the guys that were staking him were on this hustle and he took advantage of the situation. He was in the car and was guilty through association, if the guys with him didnt have their criminal tools in the car there wouldve been no charge on scooter. Am I condoning his bad judgement? Of course not. Is he a thief? Absolutley not. Ive never seen him steal a quarter (other than on a pool table lol) He's a pool hustler thats where all of his money comes from and a really good guy to be around. He's always treated everyone of his friends very well and helps more pool players and other people than 99% of the folks I know. He rented a room at the derby last year just for pool players that were down and out to stay in, how many guys do that in the pool world? He did make a mistake and he definitly wont put himself in that situation again I'd bet a lot on that.

So thats the real story from someone that knows, not pool myths that circulate without proper info. I thought I ought to put this out since he isnt here to defend himself.

That being said this is a very good oppurtunity for pool and he is the right guy for this, I always thought I was a good talker until I seen him, hes got a way about him that people are drawn to. This is going to be a good thing folks embrace it because its exactly what pool needs.

Well, it's a step up from stealing coins from car washes, so I guess there's that. I'm hoping that impressionable youths can identify this as the tripe that it is. This series will be a nice entrant in the increasingly urgent race to dumb down entertainment around the globe.

Couldn't give you a greenie, but couldn't agree more.

Anybody who donates to this is proof that P.T. Barnum was right.

I like Scooter and the first time i saw him he was 14-Caught him through the 'hall window' at Exec West playing Grady (who he beat) but I thought Tedder was the only one in the car with him when he was busted?

I have known CrowT since he was 18 or so and been on the road with him quite a bit so heres what you guys dont kknow:

If you're on the road with The Crow, you have no need for the radio...

I too was around Scooter a lot when he was cutting his teeth from 14-19, Scooter when it came down to it always was a good kid, hustling hard is what he had to do from a young age. I too have seen the little rat go out of his way to help people that were in need, not just broke down pool players. During a five or so year period he pretty much lived here and was in the poolroom every day, The Crow and I know more about where he came from than most. At the core he is a good guy.

lol hey kirk

He played out of the room Northfield Billiards in Northfield Ohio, he always created action and everyone loved him. Another big action player out of that room was Dippy Dave. Northfield Billiards was the best room from 1997-2006.

Sorry folks. I was just going by the police record and when I witnessed him at Galveston. Both seemed to add up. Some of the posters below I respect and with that I retract my previous statements. And I guess I can try to enjoy the show when it comes out.

Unlike the Hungarian I love it and can't wait.

Hey, what the hell, like I said; send it in!!!!!!!

Truth being told; if every business in the USA worried as to where the chez came from -------- well there would be almost no businesses. Period. Like it or not, a huge part of our economy - and way more than anyone would care to admit comes from what most would consider " illicit". As long as those in control get their " dividends" its all good. Be for real people

A friend and I matched reflexes with a dollar changer back in 1960-61 when we were ten. It was a competition to see who was fast enough to pull the dollar drawer back out at the exact instant that would get both my dollar back and make the change fall into the chute.

The Kids were up 7 free dollars, along with the four bucks in quarters that the machine redeemed properly, when an angry shop owner confronted us and we had to run away.

That mostly ended my budding career as a criminal mastermind.

So I don't fault Scooter for his involvement too much, whatever that involvement was. Easy money looks easy, sometimes. And I remember one guy I used to golf with every Friday who I had to quit letting into my car. He kept leaving his pot under my passenger seat - until he got out to go home, then he would take it with him. His style was to let me take the rap for the drugs in the car if we got stopped, which I did not appreciate much at all, but luckily I never got stopped, since in those days in Texas a joint could earn a guy a life sentence.

But I don't think a con/hustling/gambling reality show is going to put pool back on the map, mostly because reality TV is nowhere near real.

By now almost everyone knows those shows are severely scripted, and in this show any outcome of a pool game should be very suspect.

I made a careful frame by frame review of the missed 9-ball shot that left the door open for Scooter to come back from down 20-14 in a race to 21 and win the $2500 (which the promo erroneously claims to be $5000). I am quite sure Sparky's miss was intentional and/or scripted or really meant to be a scratch in the side.

They don't even bother to show the 9 ball getting jawed in the pocket - they only show it sitting there stopped after the shot. I doubt that anyone shooting as good as Sparky had been shooting would send the cue ball so close to the side pocket on a shot worth $2500. But the scratch might have been the backup plan in case the 9 dropped.

So how can a gambling and hustling show have any reality to it when it is scripted, produced and directed Reality TV, where the only reality exists in the mind of the writers and directors?

Some of the "crew's" matches are scripted before they are played anyway, so this would fit in with that. Just ask Kirkus or anyone else that has staked them.
I wouldn't trust any of them with enough money to get me a sammich from the sports bar.

I don't know about Fatboy, but the Earthquake saw that promo and is licking his chops for that youngster to come by his way and play some. Bet it high and give the camera something to really look at. Old Guard versus New Guard. Let the games begin! :grin-square:

Grady Seasons has spoken.

My money would be on Keith.

It just a matter of time before someone starts tearing down a person when they're mentioned on this board. Never just a simple good luck without a character assassination soon following. You name the person on this board and there involvement in anything public and shit hits the fan. MC players or reality show and the pitchforks come out.
I just hope the powers that be on the reality show doesn't read this thread, much less family. This is why pool suffers.

Yeah baby ... I would love to see that! Who knows, if this thing gets off the ground then maybe we will.

Back in the days of the pit at the SBX Kieth was the main event scooter was just a pup back in those days but I'm sure he took a few notes ,, of all the people I've seen none more entertaining than Kieth , , Unfoutunitly Scooter does not have Keith's game but he certainly has his stones ,,
Scooter ripping of his shirt might have been a act but anyone who has seen him in actions knows that's something that's well within his antics not many display the passion of Scooter ,, McCreesh , Frankie Hernandez , Mike Painter to name a couple others are right up there also there's a few more , it's not for everyone you either love them or you hate them , but IMHO it's pool entertainment at its best , nothing was ever better than the pit
