Going to be in Scottsdale for a couple of days. Any suggestions of clean decent places to play? Not looking for action just a place to go and relax in between the grind. Any AZ'ers local that want to bang around some pm me. Thanks,
Eddie

Eddie, it really depends on where you are going to be in Scottsdale. As a whole though, there really are not that many places in Scottsdale itself. Many in Tempe, Mesa, Phoenix and Beyond though.

You might only find some barboxes at some local pub depending where you are located.

If you have a car and depending on the day, there are places to play on any equipment you are looking for in about a 20 minute drive.

If you have a car go to Kolbys in Tempe , if you don't have a car , go to Kolby's in Tempe on the public transit system
Everyone I talked to helped me get wherever I needed to go.
It's actually a pretty easy system to use and the bus stops about a block away.

That IMHO Kolby's in Tempe is the only real Commercial Open to the Public Pool Room in the Valley of the Sun, PM FAST LENNY. He will tell you what you need know.

If he doesn't have a car in PHX he may as well sleep at Skylark Int.

What do you mean by "only real Commercial Open to the Public Pool Room in the Valley of the Sun" ?

What do they have that any of the other pool rooms around the valley don't?

Just curious.

It means all the other rooms are fake.

I'm sure the other rooms are fine.
Kolby's had a lot of great people in it every day, working there, playing, railbirding.
They made me feel very welcome both times I have been there and I got to watch and play some great players.

Well said bud. I would say there are some good rooms other then Kolby's but it all depends on what your looking for really. Some places might cater more to your taste if you want loud music and cheap beer or karaoke, some are more of a sports bar with recreational players. I do think Kolby's has a good deal of solid players and dedicated tournament players. I live closer to Skip and Jans and really like how the equipment is there although the action is not flourishing but its a good place to practice for me when I get the chance.

A Real Pool Room is what AMES was in the Hustler, Pool, No Booze, No Darts, No Drunks trying to sign some pop song with the sing A long Machine, No Gwirl behind the Bar calling everyone “HONEY”!

We had two real Pool Room in the San Fernando Valley when I was a kid, bakers in Burbank, and North Hollyweird Billiards, they were close to what AMES was!

Non Commercial Rooms found in many of the retirement communities that have like our 29 GC III, and we got No Music, Drunks, Booze, it is just pool, and friends hanging out, playing Pool having fun.

Than you got the Bars, Sports Bars, Pool Bars and they are mostly about selling booze, as that is how Bars make their money off BOOZE SALES. They love drunk, and heavy drinker, you know the guy who will drop a “C” note on booze in an afternoon, or evening.

Walk in Clicks, Stingers, Metro , etc., and the first thing you see is the Fully Stocked Bar, with Old # 7, and lost of other adult beverages. You they have pool tables too, but they are Bars with pool.

IMHO Kolby’s is the closest thing we have in the Valley of the Sun to an AMEAS, yes they got beer, sandwiches, but the Owner Jimmy is a pool guy, and as long as Kolby’s is there, and Jimmy is the Owner it hopefully we be MOSTLY ABOUT POOL, not Booze, & Loud Music.

JMHO:)

Well said cowboy, I was just wondering:grin:
I do have to say though, I think Skip and Jan's may be the place to play in a short while. This weekend they will have 12 Diamond Smart tables installed, and when the rest of the Brunswick GC3s are done, they will have 12 identical playing 9' tables.

I know I am a little biased because I am doing the work rebuilding the big tables and installing the Smart tables, but there will be no other place in the Valley with this caliber equipment. Another great thing they have is that the bar/restaurant area is separated from the pool side by a large wall.

Now that being said, they have had a bad reputation for quite a few years of having crap equipment, and was never a big draw. I think the owner, Natalie, is willing to work with the pool side of the business and get some good tournaments run there, and try to put Skip and Jan's back on the map so to speak.

Like I said, I am biased, but I think they have all the makings to be in the running with Colby's as the place to play in Arizona.
