Screw your cue so tight, ever get it apart?

Ever do that? I have a wood on wood radial pin joint cue that took two men and a Caribou to loosen up.

I like a tight fit, but I don't want to break out the vice-grips.

Thats what happens when you don't eat eat your Wheaties and end up with little girlie wrists.

There is an easy fix!!!!

Take the palm of your hand and tap the cue near the joint area!!!

The cue will start to vibrate and shake in your hand!!!

Then

While the cue is vibrating unscrew!!!

Works every time! Simple Physics!!! A object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an equal and opposite force! The cue vibrates and helps break the bond and loosens the threads!!

Hope this helps! No need for two people or a new cue! Its a good thing that it has such a precision fit not loose. Some put water in thread area so the moisture will expand the wood and make the fit tighter!

I was using my "drunk cue" and noticed it was really hard to unscrew when I took it apart. Next day I checked and I had managed to unscrew the insert in the shaft with drunken retard strength.

I have found this to happen when there is a drastic change in temperature for the cue. This is usually in the winter when the cue has been in the cold and then comes into a warm building. It is best to leave it warm up a little before putting together.

This also seems to be a problem with a unijointed type pin if the pin gets some dirt on it.

I once could not get my sugartree apart. Had to take it home in one piece! I got a couple of those rubber jar openers from the dollar store. That helps... Keep one in your case.

happened to me last month, then after I eventually got it loose I found out that I popped off one of the threads and so now it sounds like there's something stuck in my shaft! Not to mention that after playing for a sufficient amount of time, the stick just unscrews itself... nothing like hitting a power draw and watching your shaft go flying across the table in pursuit of the cue ball.

try buying some chem pak q wax or cue dr. wax. they are great for cues with a wood to wood joint and wont damage the cue at all and are pretty inexpensive

Although the suggestions about using a drop of liquid soap et. al before screwing the cue together are helpful, sometimes if a cue "binds together" like this, all you need is a good grip to break it free.

There's actually a really good product specifically designed for this:

I have a jump/break with a Uni-Loc style joint that, even with constant use of joint protectors (i.e to keep the threads clean, etc.), would bind on me once in a while. This Gripper, easily stored flat in my case's small pocket, does the trick. It also opens pickle jars lickety-split, too! :D

Hope this helps,

Place both hands near the joint. Give it a sudden fast twist. It should open easily. All my friends find it difficult to open up my cue and I have to show them how.

Never have one hand on the handle, you may loosen the A-joint. Both hand near the joint.

If you "like" em tight, try an Olney! From first thread, all the way to the joint! :woot:
