scrugs josey or joss comps.

I play with a fancy Josey SP and it's one of the best cues I've ever laid my hands on. Getting another custom designed one made by Keith that will come in December.

Can't recommend Josey cues enough.

Scruggs hands down. It'll play as good as any of them and if you decide to get a different cue your $ will always be there.

Haven't played with all 3...but I can tell you that I like playing with
my Josey very much. Dunno about resale value, but it doen't matter
to me. No plans to sell my Josey for something else.

This might ruffle some feathers...but what the hay...LoL!

Currently, Scruggs sneakies are, IMHO, slightly overpriced. I attribute this to the fact that Tim is now retired and the shop is closed. I don't fully expect this trend to hold, but I could be wrong. Additionally, the bulk of them were actually built by Bob Frey...and those same Frey-built sneakies can be had from Bob directly, for less money. They'll just be logo'd Frey instead of Scruggs...but the hit/play will be the same. As to their play...I cannot attest to it. I have seen two in my area...and I asked neither owner to try them out.

Just as Scruggs fans can be rabid, the same applies to Josey fans...of which I am admittedly one. Very very consistent hit/play from cue to cue...making the transition to a fancier Josey cue down the line, should one decide to go that route, effortless. Also...with the right combination of inlay design and woods, a fancy Josey pete will do okay in resale...depending on demand. I've seen them go low, and I've seen them go high...sometimes people are looking for them when none are available, and the converse is also true.

Honestly, at the custom cue price point we're talking...it's really all about timing on the resale. I've done real well selling in both October and November...go figure.

If you're looking for a keeper to play with long term, IMHO Josey hands down. More cue for less money. However, if you ever decide to sell it, for some reason, you won't get as much for it as you would a Scruggs.

Scruggs will play very well too. However, a little more to get into, but the upside is that you'll get more back if and when you ever decide to sell.

I'd suggest a Bob Frey or a Rick Howard sneaky if I were looking at sneakies based on playability alone.

Just my opinion.

I just want to be the odd ball! :smile:

Lil' Al' Hardtimes Ca

Edit: If you want something more fancy looking

Josey= Stiff
Fry=semi stiff
TS= By cue, could hit unreal stiff or semi stiff......The stiff hard hitting TS are not sold that much!
Best SP used.......for hit and stiffness....IMHO Judd
For mid 300's best hitting sp on the planet. 2 cents worth........

Joss all day my joss is not a production cue can't say enough about joss

scrugs sneaky, josey sneaky or joss. which would you chose and why. assume price is the same
Scruggs/ Josey: if price is the same then the condition sure isn't.
I am all about utility...Scruggs every time.

Not that the Joss isn't a fine ccue, but if you are paying 375 for a s-pete...don't.

Have had 2 Josey cues and ordered my third which is a sneaky pete. Nothing compares to them and the Josey family is amazing. You will be the happiest person after you play with a Josey
