As some of you know, along with a lot of others here, I have taken the approach of trying to self police the forum. Obvioulsy, we are not Mods but when we see a rules violation we step up and let people know that they have not followed the rules. Usually it's new members that haven't bothered to actually read the rules so a polite pm with a link to the rules (highlighting the rule that is applicable) is uaually all it takes for them and they understand. Usually they reply and apologize and everything is good from then on.
Other times, it's not so simple. Occasionally when I send someone that polite pm, I'm greeted with a reply filled with profanity and insults. I'm always amused by this as if I'm the one breaking the rules and being discourteous to the other members. It's funny, the last several times I've received this response, the new member ends up getting banned shortly there after. Lol!
When it's a long standing member it's a different animal entirely. They certainly don't want to admit they are being rude and ignoring the rules even if they are. Instead they try and turn the tables and act like we are the one's doing something wrong by pointing it out. Sorry, but that redirection doesn't work with me. Just buck up and admit you made a mistake and/or if you are continually ignoring the rules why not try to be a little more courteous to your fellow members and just follow the rules. While it's not as serious here on an internet forum, in civilized society the people who break the rules are called criminals. Why is it we shouldn't expect our members to act civilized here?
Anyway, recently I have had the opportunity to learn that the "report post" link at the bottom of the page does...... NOTHING. It doesn't go to a moderator but instead it goes to a generic mailbox that is not monitored. Additionally, one of the mods informed me he has "less than 10 minutes a day" to police the forums.
So with that in mind I ask you, isn't it our responsibility to self police the forum if we want it to run smoothly. The reason I'm asking is because recently there have been a lot of members acting like they are above the rules and obviously without moderation this will continue. If we want to keep this forum running smoothly I believe it's up to everyone to let people know when they have done something wrong. That being said, I don't think everyone should bombard a member because they violated the rules once. Of course people make mistakes and bump in the WFS section a little early. I'm referring to the members where this has become a pattern and who continually ignore the rules or to help a new member out by informing them of the rules in case they didn't read them.
And before you hit that reply button please try and remember that the rules are in place for a reason. The forum would be chaos without them.
Please reply with your opinion.
