Selling misconceptions... or do you believe the hype

I used to own this Mottey. I got that from Simon from the UK. I think what he meant was may be the butt was mint but the shaft was used?

Yeah, and it was unchalked when I had it, seemed a shame when it was so pristine lol!

Why oh why do we buy cues and never USE them!!!! Collectors.....what a mad bunch we are;)

I seen a cue on a cue site i think it is a motteycue #827 under new cues that says somthing like http://www.classiccues.com/cues/newcues.htm cue hits very solid "and is just about mint" what the heck is just about ? :D

Bill,
For a guy who claims to be the end all of end all dealers, maybe you comprehend as well as you type. Cue hits solid, lets see; as in a solid hitting cue, no buzzes, no tinks, etc... Cues hitting solid make a hell of a lot more sense than cues hitting like a ton, or a truck as you like to put it. Just about mint is exactly as its stated since mint/non-mint/close to mint are all terms used in industry to describe items. Not just the pool industry either, but then again, you knew that right? Yeah.. thats what I thought.

You kept this cue in great shape Si, the butt is still in mint shape. I am pretty sure the shafts were cleaned, but they are also in great shape, so if they weren't cleaned that wouldn't surprise me either. It's like the cue we got from Sanjay, but I know he uses a P-shaft, so his shafts were truly mint.

Speaking of Sanjay, he rang me yesterday from down under.....his wife Demars is pregnant again! So if you have any cues for him, now is the time to tell him as he will not be buying in 6 months, ha, ha!!!

I have also used one shaft lightly to test hit some balls. The butt was like new when it was sold.:)
It was a very nice looking cue, with a great balance.

You don't like my analogies, oh well. Here I have a joke for you..
A plane is about to crash and there are 3 boyscouts a lawyer the pilot and a priest. There are only 3 parachutes on board, and the pilot says to the priest and lawyer, since we have lead full meaningful lives, lets give the parachutes to the scouts so they can live on, the lawyer says screw the boyscouts, and the priest says.. "Do you think we'll have time"?!?!?!? :)

as i stated it was not the cue your were implying and i was told by the owner that there was another similar. and confirmed by barry. and this cue was not handled by andy gilbert!or refinished by him no beef and apology accepted

not the same cue ??

are we talking about this cue? if so, yes scott murphey did have it 3-4 years ago. scott purchased it from the original owner who played a lot. it was on the cueaddicts site briefly (pre-refinish), but scott had it refinished by gilbert, and right after that he sold or traded it at the hopkins show. that was a few years ago.

bill, if you don't believe that it's the same cue, take a close look at your picture on the bottom right of your web page.

http://www.cornerstonecustomcues.com/cues/lrgcues/022a.html

look specifically at the grain lines in the maple where it makes a flattened out, oblong oval shape, then see the grain wave above that, and the two bird's eyes right there. if you look at the attached forearm scan, you should see the same exact grain pattern above the point. hard to fade that not being the same cue !!

but you're right, i did try to do a trade/cash deal with you to get it. would also have bought it from you, too, after the show, but you never called me with the cash price. i always liked that cue....imo it's one of barry's most elegant looking non-ivory cues.

You might have scored it if you would have come off of a RAUNZAHN;)

then i have made a mistake it was represented to me as i sold it, and i confirmed it with barry and he made identical cues. i can only go by what the privious owner has told me. the cue was in new condition ! I did not put unchalked but it did have no blue grain on the shafts and no sign of play. my ratings go from top to bottom unchalked-1 from the maker / new- no signs of play-2/ excellent -can tell it has a few hrs on it-3 /light play - minor bluing butt no dings-4/restored -to excellent - 5/ played- minor ding and bluing/vintage -6/ all others will not hit the site except mike masseys cue played hard. since I have a rating system you 2 dealers try to attack me . call thing as they are, not buyer take your chances. it makes it so easy for the buyer to know what they are getting! it makes it easy for the buyer
